Teaching children is different from teaching adults. Understand that children have less patience, less attention span and less ability to sit still. They are always crawling with imagination and playfulness.
Keep the following six principles in mind to effectively teach meditation to children.
1. It's all about making meditation practices more attractive, interesting and engaging. They should feel like a fun game to play without getting bored.
2. Most children have problems understanding abstract concepts. Children love to exercise their imagination and creativity. The first step is to understand the clarity of mind that comes after meditation and the ease with which their creativity develops.
3. On average, most of us meditate for at least 20 minutes. It is difficult for children to sit patiently in one place for long periods of time. Therefore, meditation time should be less and training should be done at the right time.
4. Children are always more interested in pretending to be adults. We should realize this properly and make it a habit of daily meditation within ourselves. Can't we spend a minimum of time in meditation for our children, with children?
5. At the end of each meditation practice, the mental flows during meditation should be known from them. They should find out whether the sitting posture for meditation is suitable and the intensity of the mental flow is reduced.
6. Our children cannot become young budha in early training. Continual practice results in clarity of mind and self-control. Keeping the mind clear is the most sacred of all religions. Meditation is a great gift. It should be realized that it is beyond the tenets of all religions.
