How to take care of your pet?

Supporting any animal addition to your family. Having a pet is rewarding, but it can be hard work as well. Pets can look cute, but they need a lot of looking after for many years.

 

Chief Inspector John Carle said:

"One of the problems is that people do not think carefully enough before they get a pet. A puppy can be very appealing, but they grow up, need house training, regular walks, grooming, care, and attention. Cats are not so dependent but still need care and companionship. Smaller animals need to be fed daily, have daily human contact, and have their hutches cleaned regularly.

 

Owning a pet is a commitment:

Pets are a commitment. They need your care, attention every day and every time of their lives, which means looking after them for many years. Some cats and smaller breed dogs live for upto 20 years. So when you buy a pet, remember that you commit with your own to look after that pet.

While pets are loving and adding to your home, they are not always easy to manage. All pets require time, money, and love in addition to specific needs for each animal and breed.

 

i) Most pets require attention and maintenance during the day, so make sure that you will be at home enough to take care of your pet.

ii) If you have kids, consider what pets will be kid-friendly. For example, Fish make great early pets.

 

Choose those pets that fit your lifestyle:

Different pets have different needs. Even different types of dogs have different needs, so make sure you pick a pet that suits you. Before buying a pet, do thorough research on the behaviors and needs of the various pet you like.

i)All Dogs need lots of attention, time to exercise, and plenty of room to roam.

ii)Cats need your time and love.

iii) Fish need careful monitoring and care to thrive.

 

Choose the breed carefully, especially if you have children. It's a mistake to decide, "I want a dog or any other animal without considering the needs and requirements of the breed.

i) Prepare yourself for your incoming pet.

ii) Buy necessary pet supplies in advance.

iii) Clean your pet.

iv) Give your pet your affection.

 

Tips for looking after your pet: 

Here are few tips for setting you on the path of being a responsible pet owner.

1) Feed your pet good and high-quality foods.

2) Take them for a walk every day for atleast half an hour.

3) Provide them with the needed vaccination on time.

 

4) Keep a clean and hygienic environment for them.

5) Visit Vet on a weekly/monthly basis.

6) Engage and do not leave them alone for a long time.

It is important to be aware that some types of pets need to be housed with other animals of their own species, but some types need to be housed alone and away from other animals.

 

Allow your pet to exercise:  

Like us, animals will get obese if they don't have the chance to get enough exercise. Therefore you must assign time every day for your pet to get some exercise.

Different animals exercise in different ways. Dogs will need a daily walk.
