A king came to the land of God. He is just and fair. full of love and grace. He once went hunting in the forest.
On the way, an old woodcutter came carrying firewood on his head. When the king saw the woodcutter, he felt sorry that he was suffering so much at such a young age.
Then he looked at the woodcutter and said, “Sir, don't you have children? You are still striving like this at this age,” he asked. He cut wood, looked at the king, and said, “O king, I have children.
But they are not with me now. They listened to their wives and became celibate. Now only my wife and I are at home.
So, it has become necessary to strive like this," he said. On hearing this, the king gifted the woodcutter with a piece of sandalwood forest in his country to alleviate his suffering.
He cut wood and was very happy. The king was very happy to donate his sandalwood grove to the wood cutter. Because, being an old man, he would cut sandalwood trees and sell them.
Each tree fetches a price of one lakh. He thought that with that, he would get all the comforts, like a house and land, and be comfortable. The king cut wood, as he thought.
Many years have passed. As the king was going hunting as usual, he saw a big Selvar coming in front of him. All the people paid him respect. The king sent guards to bring the elders to his palace.
The elder also obeyed the king's order and stood before the king with great joy. The king looked at the elder and said, “Who are you, sir? What is the reason that the people of this country respect you so much?” he asked.
Immediately, the elder looked at the king and said, “King, don't you know me? I am a woodcutter who met you many years ago. You saw me languishing in poverty and gifted me sandalwood. I cut those trees and sold them at a good price and became very rich,” he said.
The king was very happy. Then he looked at the elder and said, “What is the reason why people respect you so much?"
"Government, I have built a school and a hospital for the benefit of many poor people with the huge amount of money I got. I have helped some people start their own businesses by giving them money.
That's why people shower favours on me,” he said. The king was happy in his heart, thinking how the meditation he did was producing all the virtues.
He also praised the elder.
Justice: Donation is best. As we donate to each other, many benefit. Therefore, everyone should cultivate the virtue of charity.
