How to boost your immune system?

Your immune system does a remarkable job defending you against infectious microorganisms and keeping you healthy. But if your immune system is weak it is possible that pathogens invade your body and make you sick. The good news is that you can improve your immune system.

What do you need to do?

1st.Understand how it works.

2nd.Know the factors that affect it

How does the immune system work?

The immune system consists of white blood cells mainly of two types phagocytes and lymphocytes. Phagocytes are responsible for eating the pathogens by digesting it while lymphocytes produce antibodies which makes the job of phagocytes easier. Now the thing is that both antibodies and the white blood cells are mainly composed of protein. So a protein deficiency can really affect immunity.

Factors affecting the immune system

Diet:

Immune system cells need good nourishment. Scientists have long recognized that people who live in poverty and are malnourished are more vulnerable to infectious diseases. Whether the increased rate of disease is caused by malnutrition's effect on the immune system, however, it is not certain. There are still relatively few studies on the effects of nutrition on the immune system of humans. Deficiency of micronutrients like vitamin C, A, E, B6, zinc, iron, selenium, folic acid, and copper decreased the immunity of animals present in the test tubes while experimenting.

So what you can do is check whether you are getting all the nutrients or not? Is your diet lacking these? Switching to a good diet consisting of fruits, eggs, vegetables can really have a significant effect on immunity in a very short period of time.

Exercise

Regular exercise is one of the pillars of healthy living. It improves cardiovascular health, lowers blood pressure, helps control body weight, and protects against a variety of diseases. But does it help to boost your immune system naturally and keep it healthy? Just like a healthy diet, exercise can contribute to general good health and therefore to a healthy immune system. It may contribute even more directly by promoting good blood circulation, which allows the cells and substances of the immune system to move through the body freely and do their job efficiently. So a walk or jog can really help you.

Stress

Stress is something people are facing every day. In the days of quarantine rather than decreasing, the stress levels of people rose significantly. However, this stress is not as harmful as chronic stress. Scientists found a direct relationship of stress with increasing cases of disease invasion. So what you can do is opt for habits like meditations, improve your sleep or take therapy.

Age

It is a truth that as we age our immunity decreases. You can see by looking at the statistics of cancer patients, mostly old people have cancer because their phagocytes were unable to spot cancerous cells. Respiratory infections, influenza, the COVID-19 virus, and particularly pneumonia are a leading cause of death in people over 65 worldwide. No one knows for sure why this happens, but some scientists observe that this increased risk correlates with a decrease in T cells, possibly from the thymus atrophying with age and producing fewer T cells to fight off infection. Whether this decrease in thymus function explains the drop in T cells or whether other changes play a role is not fully understood. Others are interested in whether the bone marrow becomes less efficient at producing the stem cells that give rise to the cells of the immune system.

Conclusion

In a nutshell, we can say that the best thing you can do to improve your immune system is to opt for a healthy lifestyle. You can go for supplements and herbs but in the long run, lifestyle matters most.
