Fish is one of the most nutritious foods to be eaten daily, because it is full of protein, omega 3 fatty acids and others minerals and nutrients which are essential for our body's growth. But unfortunately, we take fish with flirtation. We have been taught to not eat fish in summer, and in winter we also take it in less amount. Most of the children are found stunted growth due to the lack of essential nutrients in Asia. Doctors recommend eating at least 100 gram of fish daily. So it is important to add fish to your meal at least once in a week.
Fish is an essential food and for getting this food, fish farming is a beneficial business to get this food and earn a good amount of money. Here we have discussed fish farming from its construction till marketing.
Selection of land
If you are planning to start fish farming, first you have to select an area which should be somehow away from human population and must have a road connect with it. Because without a road, it will be difficult to reach the area and will be easy to bring essential equipments to the farm. And marketable fish can easily be transported.
After that, the soil of the land must be tested, whether the soil is capable to store water for the long time and does it contain the significant minerals for fish growth. There are various method to test the soil, but the best method is to test it in a laboratory.
Selection of water
After the selection of land, the water which you are going to use for fish farming should be tested too. The water must be checked in both quality and quantity.
1. Quantity of water
For fish farming, it is necessary to have a good source of water near the land which is being used and is an easy excess. Because sometimes people select source of water which are seasonal, means the water is only available in rainy days. So, this can cause difficulty in changing the water in time of need.
2. Quality of water
Along with quantity, the quality of water should also be tested. The water which is being used must be suitable, it must contain the essential minerals nutrients and a suitable pH. Because the quality of water can affect the growth of the fishes. The pH which is considered suitable for fish farming is between 5 and 8. The water should be free from all types of pollutants.
Weather conditions
The condition of weather is also a necessary parameter to be checked for fish farming. Because the temperature also has an impact on fish growth. The fish which we have in Pakistan are mostly Rāhu, Maori, tilapia, and silver also called crabs. These fish grow best in temperature of 20 to 35 degree Celsius, and most of the areas in Pakistan has this temperature range. If you are living in an area of cold weather, then the trout fish is a good choice for farming, because trout fish grow best in cold water. If you are a resident of hot weather area, then you can increase the depth of the farm, because in depth water remains cool, and will be suitable for fishes.
Construction of farm
The fish farm can be constructed in two methods. In one method, the land is dug with the help of a crane to make the farm and In the second method, barrages are constructed around the land to make the farm.
Make sure, that the farm must not be too big. Because it will be difficult for the maintenance and cleaning of the farm. If the area is big, then you can increase the number of farms. A farm shouldn't cover an area more than one acre.
Fish food
The food of fish is the most important parameter to be chosen wisely, because the higher will be the quality of food, better will be the result.
Each fish has a different method of feeding, some fishes eat from surface and some from bottom. So it is necessary to select the food wisely that must not go to waste. The wastage of food can also be overcome by adding different feeding fishes into the same form.
