Despite all of these threats, there are at least three ways that small businesses can continue to function in the face of these unprecedented challenges. These three principles can help all of us protect our businesses and determine the ways we want to support them in the future.
1: Trust your gut.
Trust your gut. In the face of digital competition, small businesses must trust their instincts and cut down the time wasted arguing internally. When trying to make crucial business decisions, it can be useful to focus on intuition. If you're not sure what direction to take, you might be wrong! Why not let your instinct be your guide? You might discover an opportunity you weren't even aware of, or at least something valuable you weren't looking for. And if you're trying to measure and track progress in order to make necessary adjustments, you might find that your gut is right all along.
2: Keep an open mind.
There are new technologies out there that promise to provide small business owners with much-needed answers. For instance, you might find that the digital resources provided by the likes of SaaS-based CRM and ERP solutions are helpful tools. However, sometimes it can be hard to switch from a business-focused mindset to a customer-focused one. Sometimes it's difficult to comprehend the vision that a customer sees. It's easy to be frustrated by the response you're getting or how difficult it is to get ahead. Don't lose your perspective. There is so much information at your fingertips today that it's sometimes easy to get lost.
However, if you take time to reflect and ask yourself whether you are serving your customers or trying to please them, you'll discover that there is more than one way to achieve success. Understanding the needs of your customers is the first step to success, even in the most dynamic of times.
3: Have a healthy perspective.
While the cost of a good platform or product is easy to justify, sometimes it can feel as though you've made an easy and lazy choice. The truth is, sometimes an important decision is a difference between survival and ruin. As difficult as the world is, I would argue that we're better off to keep an open mind and to continue to question the decisions that are made around us so that we can take a more informed approach to lead our businesses. Small business is all about accepting uncertainty. These challenging times will keep us on our toes and push us to continually evolve. It's important to stay focused, maintain a positive attitude, and trust in the fact that the future holds success.
When facing the many challenges that will undoubtedly present themselves in the near future, we must remember to keep an open mind and to focus on solving problems that are important to our customers and to our businesses. If you follow these three principles, you will have a much better chance of being successful. Follow the above strategies and start your own business, be your own boss.
