There are just too many people who, before they even start dieting, set themselves up for failure. Some fear starting their diets so much that they prepare for their setbacks in advance. Sadly, but unavoidably, plenty of would-be dieters are plotting their first Rocky Road blunder while enjoying their final serving of Rocky Road before the big event.
I don't understand why we torture ourselves like this, but I notice it in dieters all over the place. The all-too-common misconception is that in order to lose weight, one must fully cut out their favorite foods, hence one must feast on them before starting their diet. Nothing could be more untrue if you are honest with yourself. Simply said, many of us find moderation to be an uncomfortable idea.
Every diet you choose to follow must be successful if you want to improve your attitude towards food and how much you like eating personally. The adversary is not food. And a lot of folks don't really comprehend that. Even supposedly delicious meals are not the bad guys. You are your own worst adversary if you can't portion your food correctly. The issue is that most of us consume the incorrect foods much more frequently than we eat the correct foods. The difficulties are here.
By not consuming the recommended five servings of vegetables and three servings of fruit each day, we are depriving our bodies of the nutrients they require. We feel hungry or deprived because our bodies sense that something is missing. We would find that we were far less likely to feel hungry and crave those items that aren't as nutritious if we were actually consuming the right combination of fruits and vegetables each day. In light of the fact that things should be enjoyed, we would therefore be far more likely to do so.
An additional issue we face is portion control. A culture of "upselling" permeates our society. With practically every fast food meal that can be purchased, you may get super-sized fries and empty calories by the gallon of your favorite cola. You must learn to refuse these requests and stay away from settings where you could be tempted to order these larger-than-normal portions.
If you want to lose weight successfully, you must view the process as one of improving your health rather than one of starving yourself. Do not view your weight loss program as a bad force in your life, but rather as a constructive one that will help you make improvements. Do not blame your diet when you are having bad thoughts. Remind yourself of this whenever you feel deprived and that you are robbing your bones by carrying that extra weight. Keep in mind that by avoiding the bulky attire that is intended to cover the bulges, you are limiting your wardrobe's options. Tell yourself that you are restoring the youthful appearance of your body by removing the years' worth of bulges.
Be careful not to let your diet obsession prevent you from taking advantage of some of life's finer things. You're not obligated to never exceed your allocation just because you're watching your weight and monitoring calories. But finding equilibrium is the objective. You might be surprised by the results if you learn how to portion your meals properly, indulge in treats in moderation, and add fun calorie-burning activities into your daily routine.
Only if you let it be our diets for weight loss and good health depriving. By all means, refrain from indulging if you find it difficult to control yourself. Nevertheless, if you can learn to incorporate those minor delights into your routine in moderation and burn those extra calories as well, you should find yourself a much happier and more successful "dieter" than you have ever managed to be.
