How to start dieting.
When it comes to dieting, far too many people set themselves up for failure even before they start.
They detest going on diets and are already plotting their blunders along the way before they even begin.
Far too many would-be dieters are planning their first Rocky Road accident while eating their last bowl of Rocky Road before the big event, which is unfortunate but true.
I'm not sure why we do this to ourselves, but it's something I see in dieters all over the place. The all-too-common belief is that before starting a diet, one must feast on all of one's favorite foods, because these must be fully discarded in order to lose those extra pounds. Nothing could be further from the truth if you are honest with yourself. Many of us are uncomfortable with the concept of moderation.
How to change the way you think about food.
In order for any diet to be successful, you must change your way of thinking about eating and your own love of food. The adversary isn't food. And that is something that far too few people comprehend. Even 'delicious' meals aren't the bad guys.
Your personal failure to portion foods properly is the adversary. The issue is that the vast majority of us eat far more of the incorrect foods than the proper meals. This is the source of the issues.
Our bodies require the nutrients we are missing out on by failing to consume the recommended five servings of vegetables and three servings of fruit every day.
Something is missing in our bodies, and we feel hungry or deprived. We would find that if we ate the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables every day, we would be significantly less likely to feel hungry and crave unhealthy meals.
As a result, we're a lot more inclined to enjoy things in moderation, as they should be.
Another issue we face is portion control.
We live in a society where "upselling" is the norm. Almost every fast food meal comes with super-sized fries and a gallon of your favorite cola, which is loaded with empty calories.
You must learn to say no to these requests and avoid circumstances where you may be tempted to order larger portions.
Weight-loss strategy.
To be truly effective when dieting, you must view the process as one of constructing a healthy you rather than one of deprivation.
Consider your weight-loss strategy as a good force in your life that will help you make positive changes in your life.
If you're having a bad day, don't blame it on your diet. When you're feeling deprived, remind yourself that you're depriving your bones of the extra weight they're carrying.
Remind yourself that you're getting rid of the bulky garments that are supposed to mask your flaws.
Remind yourself that you are removing years of bulges from your physique and restoring your youthful appearance.
Achieve equilibrium.
Do not become so engrossed in the dieting process that you neglect to appreciate some of life's pleasures.
The fact that you're watching your weight and calculating your calories doesn't ensure you'll never go over your daily calorie limit. The goal, however, is to achieve equilibrium.
You might be surprised at the outcomes if you learn to portion your meals correctly, consume in moderation, and add fun calorie-burning activities into your daily routine.
Dieting for health and weight loss is only depriving if you allow it to be. If you can't control yourself when it comes to indulging, then avoid it at all costs.
However, if you can learn to incorporate minor pleasures into your routine in moderation while still burning those extra calories, you should be a much happier and more successful 'dieter' than you have ever been before.
