Life is stressful and sometimes stress can take a toll on you, but there are steps you can take to learn how to relax.
Ordinary everyday activities like grocery shopping or traffic jams can put you under stress. You may find it difficult to unplug from digital devices and streaming services in a 24/7 world. Working deadlines, handling kids or dealing with a difficult relationship can leave you frustrated.
The coronavirus pandemic, a chronic illness, or caring for an elderly relative can be a stressor.
"Stress is actually how your body and brain respond to challenges, such as pressure at work, [handling] pandemics, increased family responsibility, other negative experiences that can affect and cause stress," says David Shurtleff, PhD.says the deputy director. National Center of the National Institutes of Health for Complementary and Integrative Health.
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted concerns around stress.
“We are seeing a lot more anxiety and depression in view of the COVID situation than last year.
This article looks at ways to reduce the amount of stress people have. I was often referred to as a tension head, which I must admit was a good description of mine. I've learned about ways to relax now, which have helped me lead a more care-free life.
There have been many issues in my own life due to which I have lost my confidence, I have become stressed and even depressed. This includes:
lack of true friends
I have debt problem
a stutter
a bald patch
I have trouble controlling my weight
I was often paranoid about what other people thought of me
These issues have given me many sleepless nights. I would not be able to sleep because I was unable to rest. This was due to constantly worrying and thinking about my problems.
Then I decided to study ways I could increase my self-esteem, reduce the amount of stress I put on, and also learn how to relax. After a long time, I came to believe that I had some tools and techniques that would help me.
Stress management techniques
stop thinking so much
I am what people call a thinker. Basically I think too much. It wouldn't be a problem if I was thinking positively but of course I was a negative thinker.
To help me in this quest to stop thinking, I decided to start listening to more music. Whenever I hit a negative thought process, I would play this music. This can happen when I am in the car, when I am at home and even when I am in bed.
Music helps take my mind off the issues I was stressing over.
Quit Smoking and Start Exercising Instead
Many people decide to smoke a cigarette when they are stressed. I believe exercising is a far healthier and cheaper option.
I'll do some weights and some press- ups that help me release some steam. It also helps me fight my anger and fear.
Learn to relax
Relaxation was something that I found very difficult to do.
I have now started various forms of alternative medicine such as tai chi, meditation and reflexology. These help people to relax and also help in reducing stress levels.
It has helped me reduce my own stress levels and I hope the advice will be of benefit to other people.
