Is the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic going to have a huge impact on children?
Recently, it was told in research that the children have also been affected a lot in the pandemic of COVID-19. Because of this, parents are also apprehensive about the health and life of their children because, in the third wave of this epidemic, many fears are being raised that many symptoms can be seen in children. And in the midst of all, the experts remove these claims/clips and say that the effect of the second wave was equal on everyone.
Due to the unavailability of the COVID-19 vaccine, parents get panic and sad about how to protect their children in this coming third wave. The Pediatrics Association has come forward and advised the parents that there is no need to be afraid of this virus that it will not affect the kids much. Earlier, AIIMS Director Dr. Randeep Guleria has also said in clear words that there is no real or strong evidence of the effect of the third wave being talked about the children.
Symptoms and signs in children suffering from COVID-19 :
The symptoms found in children in the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemics, such as fever, cough, cold, sore throat, vomiting, and phlegm, are being seen. Some of these affected children whose condition is from bad to worse have problems like breathing problems, lethargy, seizures, and hypoxia-like disease, which require hospitalization.
Some guidelines to keep children safe from the upcoming third wave of COVID-19 pandemic are :
- It has been told by the Directorate General of Health Services that Remdesivir should not be used in children because this medicine or injection is a drug used for emergency services.
- Only such children who are above 12 years of age are informed or suggested that they take a Six Month Walk Test under the supervision of parents or guardians.
- This test is done to conduct Cardio-Pulmonary Exercise to unmask Hypoxia, leading to relapse of the disease.
Easy Steps :
- Take a pulse oximeter, drop it on your child's finger, and ask them to walk continuously for 6 minutes, whether it is a room or a park.
- If the child's test report comes positive after six minutes of doing this test, it can be said that they have a disease of hypoxia and should be admitted to the hospital soon for observation and oxygen supplementation.
- Repeat this test frequently every 6 to 8 hours so that it can be monitored at home.
- One thing should be kept in mind that this test should not be used on patients with Asthma.
- If during the test, the saturation <94 % or the absolute drop >3-5 % or do not feel well (that means the head is heavy and having trouble in breathing), when giving this test whether or not after six minutes, it is understood that the test is positive and has become a victim of hypoxia.
