How to properly supplements and absorb calcium
The human body is a complex system and requires a lot of nutrients to maintain the necessary functions. Most people consume enough amount of nutrients every day but fail to absorb them due to various reasons. The primary reason for this is lack of proper intake of essential nutrients.
Calcium is an important mineral that helps in bone health, muscle contraction, blood clotting, nerve transmission, nerve contractions and many more. It is essential for proper growth of hair and nails. It also plays critical role in maintaining healthy heart and nervous systems.
Vitamin D (itamin D) deficiency leads to a number of diseases like rickets, osteoporosis, low vitamin D levels, brittle bones, cataracts, depression, and many others. Vitamin D is a fat-soluble nutrient that comes from both sunlight and animal-based foods like eggs, seafood, and fortified milk.
It is found abundantly in fish, liver, soybeans, and egg yolks, and in some grasses like alfalfa, clover, peas, and wheatgrass. There are two types of vitamin D. One is obtained through sun exposure and the other one is stored in the skin.
The most common form of vitamin D is 1,25(OH)D. This is obtained from sunlight and is converted into active form to be transported by the circulation. When it reaches the skin it attaches itself to fat cells of adipose tissue and then enters the bloodstream. As part of its transportation mechanism, it binds with protein receptors located on the walls of cells. For this purpose, it also binds with cholesterol through chylomicrons found in the lumen of renal vessels.
Vitamin D can be easily absorbed from plant products such as whole milk, eggs, meat, and fatty fishes, especially oily fish like salmon or mackerel. However, not all fat-soluble vitamins canĀ absorb.
