The way you pronounce the definite article "the" depends on the word that comes after it and how you use it.

Pronouncing "the" or "the" alone

Pronouncing "the" alone results in the pronunciation /̫ij/.

Take note of the final /j/ sound. The Y-sound is present in it. It lengthens the /i/ in "the."

Prior to a consonant sound, "the"

"The" is not stressed when it appears before a word that begins with a consonant, thus you pronounce it as /ð/.
