Certain deodorants can irritate the skin, and can also lead to the skin becoming darker. Interestingly, hair removal techniques such as “shaving, plucking and waxing” can be seen by our body as “injuries”, thereby stimulating excessive melanin production in the particular area.
Besides these, lack of exfoliation can trigger the pigmentation process, too, as can hormonal imbalance in the body. The dermat explained that other factors include insulin resistance, medication side-effects, and the leftover pigment in the skin after shaving.
According to the dermatologist, in order to prevent underarm pigmentation, one can do the following:
1) Change the brand of deodorant: They can look at one with no fragrance.
2) Shaving: Razors can cause irritation, so when you shave, do not apply too much pressure.
3) Sunscreen: This wonder product is for all seasons and can protect the skin if it is exposed to the sun.
4) Wear loose-fit clothes: Tight clothing can cause hyperpigmentation.
5) Fitness: Lead an active life; working on your fitness levels and weight reduction can help with underarm pigmentation.
Tips to control underarm pigmentation:-
1) Change your deodorant or antiperspirant.
2)Seek out a different brand.
3) Stop shaving. Try waxing or laser hair removal instead.
4) Exfoliate.Use a gentle body scrub or exfoliant on the area two to three times per week.
5) Wear loose fitting clothes.
Tips for home remedies:
1) Use Baking soda, as a srurb under your arm. Continue scrubbing for 4 - 5 minutes then wash it with Luke warm water. Repeat this steps for twice or thrice for a week for effective results.
2) Take one table spoon of Rose water, one table spoon of milk mix it together. Then add one pinch of orange peel powder and make as a paste. Apply it on your under arm, leave it for atleast 5 minutes which gives you a clear and soft under arm.
3) Use sugar and Olive oil as a ingredient. Mix it together as a mixture. Use this scrub under your arm for easy results. Repeat this step for 3 to 5 times a week.
4) Turmeric has a anti- bacterial uses. Take a pinch of turmeric powder and mix it with 1 or 2 table spoon of milk . Make as a paste and apply on your under arm area.
5) Aloe Vera gel is a good moisturizer. It makes your skin gentle and cool. Take one table spoon of aloe vera gel and 2 to 3 drops of Tea tree oil. Mix it together as a paste. Clean your underram and then apply it on your under arm area to get good results. Repeat this step twice for a week or we can do it on daily routine also.
6) Potato. It is a good exfoliating agent which removes dark pigment under your arm. Grate the potatoes and filter a juice in a bowl. Use cotton balls and gently apply on the area which gives you good results.
7) Cucumber toner is also used to reduce dark patches.
8) An all-rounder, ACV has rich content of amino and lactic acid that helps clear dead skin cells and lessen scars. Its astringent properties unclog the pores and reduce skin darkness. You can simply pour some organic ACV on a cotton pad, pat it into the armpit area and leave it until it dries completely before washing it off. Repeat daily for quick and effective results.
