What can you do if you feel that you are about to lose your job? Is it writing on the wall? Are you going to be fired? Is the company going down? Or it will be obvious that you no longer have a job. If you have these feelings now is the time to take action to reduce the impact. You need to start today to fix your issues. If the ax falls, you will be in a much better position than your colleague. If you follow these steps and nothing happens, you will still be much better than you are now.

First, is your CV up to date? If you haven’t reviewed it in a few years, now  it is the time. You may want to consider hiring a specialist to do it for you. You need to put your all effort. You want to be able to start sending it before or just after you lose a job. Looking for a new job can be a full-time job yourself. Do your job skills need to be updated? While you are still working, it may be a good time to take a few classes and refine your skills or start training for a new job. You may want to sign up with a temporary agency now to post it later. The advantages of temporary companies are that they pay well, get you a job, you will not compete for a position with many others, and you can start immediately.

Try to connect yourself with others. Ask everyone you know if they know about job openings. If you have not already done so, explain why you may be retrenched and looking for a new job. Maybe they can give you a name for the connection between their company. Maybe they will help you in giving you more useful suggestions and help you in finding job, which will be suitable for you. Someone who will post your resume to let you know if there is a future opening of jobs that you would like to consider. Do not wait, start the process of finding a job now. It's not what you know, it's the one you know.

Organize your financial house accordingly. This is seemed to be easier than said, done. If you are like most people, you probably already make a living by paying a check and nothing more. When you lose your job, you need as much money as you can to carry. Many experts recommend 3-6 months cash to meet your living needs. What if you have not been able to get a job for eight months or a year? Collect all your savings or sources of cash. Stash as much as possible to meet your needs.

If you are retrenched, the next day you should start filling out any paperwork to get the unemployment benefits you may be eligible for.

You will get over this, it will only take a while. Start taking these important steps today, and you will be better prepared for the future.
