How safe is it to drive on the roads today? We should strive to be better drivers, no matter the road we are using or the design of the car we are going, all year round.

Here are five driving solutions that will make the roads safer for you and other drivers (including law enforcement officers and first responders who risk their lives to deal with traffic accidents every day).
1.) Make up your mind not to get distracted while driving.
On American roads, distracted driving remains a dangerous and deadly problem. The CDC reports that in the United States, more than 2,800 people were killed in crashes involving distracted drivers in 2018, and about 400,000 people were injured.
Follow some of these tips in 2021:
- Focus on your driving by putting your phone down.
- Don't write while driving.
- Set the destination in the navigation before departure.
- When you are a passenger, and your driver uses electronic devices while driving, please talk about it. Take the initiative to request the driver to focus on driving.
- Even when using new Advanced Driver Assistance Safety (ADAS) technologies, be determined to stay engaged. Please make up your mind to understand how they work and understand their limitations.

2.)Make up your mind not to be an angry driver.
A recently released AAA study has revealed that, regardless of gender, almost eight out of ten (79%) American drivers of all genders exhibit aggressive driving behavior.
Researchers say speeding tops the list, and men are the biggest culprit, but women aren't far behind.
Jake Nelson, head of road safety defense at AAA, said speeding, red lights, and cutting the paths of other drivers could kill you, your passengers, and others sharing the road.
Active driving is not worth the risk. When driving, be patient, friendly, and obey the road rules so that everyone can get home safely.
In 2021, make up your mind to avoid road rage with the following tips:
Don't Offend: Never let other drivers change gears or direction. This means that don't force another driver to use their brakes or turn the steering wheel in response to what you are doing.
Tolerance: Another driver may have just had a terrible day. Assuming it's not personal.
Do not answer: Avoid eye contact, make gestures, keep space around the vehicle and call 9-1-1 if necessary.
Also, remember to share the road with bikers.
3.)Determine not to drink or use other substances and stay behind the wheel.
According to NHTSA data, 10,511 people were killed in drunk driving crashes in 2018.
Solve in 2021:
- Designate a sober driver.
- Call a cab or use services like Uber or Lyft to get home safely.
- NHTSA's SaferRide mobile application can be downloaded for Android devices through Google Play and Apple iTunes Store for iOS devices. It allows the user to call a taxi or a reserved friend and determine the user's location to be picked up safely.
- Don't let your friend drive while impaired.
4.)Make up your mind not to speed up or to ignore the red lights.
According to NHTSA statistics, in 2018, speeding tickets caused 9,378 fatalities, and nearly half of the fatalities were not wearing seat belts. Ignoring the red light is also a problem.
AAA also recently reported that the number of red-light fatalities in the United States had peaked steadily for ten years. There were 939 deaths in red light accidents in 2017.
Determine this year:
- Obey the speed limit.
- Don't go through the red lights.
5.)Make up your mind not to drive when you are sleepy.
According to the National Sleep Foundation, half of the American adults consistently reported being sleepy while driving and about 20% said they had fallen asleep while driving in the previous year.
Drowsiness is a big problem on the road, and more car manufacturers are now coming up with new safety systems to address this problem. These systems are designed to use sensors to help detect driver fatigue and inattention and then alert them.
Determination:
- Sleep more.
- Be aware of any medications you are taking that can cause drowsiness.
- Get out of the car at the first sign of drowsiness on the wheel.
The signs include: - No longer remembering the last kilometers of the journey.
- Thoughts of disconnection or lingering.
- Difficulty concentrating or opening your eyes wide.
- Feeling like your head is heavy.
- Getting out of your lane, perhaps driving on a rough road.
- Yawning several times.
- Accidentally dragging other vehicles.
- Missing traffic signs. Etc
