Let’s face it, the States is going in the opposite direction when it comes to progress as a nation. Everywhere you turn, there’s something new that’s pushing you over the edge!
Wouldn’t it be nice just to get away… and stay gone?
Can you even wrap your head around the possibility of giving it all up for a quieter and enjoyable life?
Listen, everyone and anyone can talk a good game about making a move like leaving the States, I know this to be true because I did it for years! Sure, I kept saying I was going to do it, rather it was in a few years, when I retire, blah, blah, blah! But the reality was; MY reality was, I had perfected this dream in my head and enjoyed dreaming about it more than actually doing something about it! You see, the dream was simple, I shut my eyes, pictured myself lying in a hammock somewhere and listening to the waves crash! That’s it! (You notice that I didn’t have to pack anything, pay any airline tickets, or even pick up any SPF 50 suntan lotion!)
But it was only when I opened my eyes, did I realize that it’s probably not going to happen in this lifetime! Not if I didn’t put forth some serious effort in making the dream a reality. And just like any dream you want to turn into reality, you have to first start off with a shift in your thought process. And depending upon what type of personality you have, that personality type may very well keep you where you’re at. Stuck at a job you despise, afraid to leave the house because of COVID conspiracy theorists, or even worse, a shooter at your local grocery store!
You’re literally afraid to move because of the dangers lurking around every corner in America, but you know that moving is the only logical step to take if you want to see your next birthday upright!
So what does being mentally prepared look like?
The first thing you need to understand is you will have to not only fight the naysayers, but you’ll also have to internally battle within yourself! We have a tendency to be our worse enemies when our gut is telling us just the opposite!
Henry Ford was quoted, “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t — YOU’RE RIGHT!”
So you have to first convince yourself that leaving the States is the best thing for YOU! This decision has nothing to do with anyone else! No one else’s health or mental status is going to improve because of it. You literally have to become selfish in order to make this happen.
But you don’t have to tell the world what you’re doing, at least not at the beginning stages! We have that tendency to seek the approval of others when it comes down to making big decisions, and it sets us up for failure each and every time!
Here are the 3 types of individuals you’re going to encounter when they find out you’re leaving the States:
1. The, “I failed geography people” — These are the individuals that will respond back to you with a question that shows you that they know absolutely nothing about the country you’re moving to! They’ll say something along the lines of, “Isn’t that country a third-world country?”. *What they also didn’t know is that the U.S. is considered a second-world country as of 2021.
2. Next up, we have “I support you, but I’m not sure that this is such a good idea people!” — These people genuinely want you to be happy, as long as you don’t leave! They are usually your close friends and family. They are also the ones that have never left the state they grew up in since the 5th grade! When asked why they don’t think it’s a good idea, they honestly can’t come up with one!
3. Our last group of individuals is “But you don’t speak the language or know anyone who lives there.” — These are usually your acquaintances, co-workers, or frenemies. Just the thought of you leaving the States for a better life is enough to make their skin crawl. How dare you leave them here to fight off the Zombies all by themselves! Their envy is turned into despising you, and you do need to be careful with people like this because they will sabotage your plans at any cost!
So how do you stay mentally on top of it when you got arrows coming at you from all angles? Your positive attitude is what’s going to carry you during this challenging time. You have to stay focused on achieving this goal because it is the only thing that’s going to keep everyone else at a distance.
That means surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals who are doing or have accomplished the same thing you’re trying to achieve. That includes watching YouTube videos about your place of choice, joining F/B groups that have people who have completed the move, signing up to receive newsletters that are all about your new country. Talking to attorneys, moving companies, storage companies are all part of the process, don’t dread those moments. All that means is that you’re one step closer to achieving something most people you know have never considered doing!
You could compare this to a new chapter in your life, but the reality is, it’s more like a new book with blank pages and a fresh new pen to compliment the journey!
Every new journey has a starting point, and having the right mindset for such a daunting task like this is the key to a successful move!
