Business model
As you can guess from the name of this report, the basic business model here involves free reports. Free reports are one of the best ways to build a list, but few people realize that they can also be a great income generating tool. The great thing about this business model is that if you have provided some kind of free report, you can have 90% of your direct income from your report.
So, the simple structure of this business model is that you create a useful "How to" report in a market where there are many information seekers and potential sellers. You create an opt-in page for a free report, and if you're building a list, you add it to your sales page (sales funnel) that offers resale rights.
Free Report
To quote George Orwell, "all accounts are not created equal". Free reports and basic report copies are good for listing and pre-selling high-value products, but they are not suitable for this model. The ideal report for this business model to work well with is a standalone report that provides useful information focused on specific results.
Examples of good reports:
- How to set up a branch review page
- How to make your first $100 online
- How to get your first 500 customers
All of these articles are classified under How to Make Money Online or Niche Internet Marketing, but other good places for this business model include Network Marketing and Business to Business marketplaces. All these reports have double value. This is useful for people new to the query space because it contains great information and can be easily used by your customers to build your list.
The subjective nature of the report is important. This means that the report can be used outside of the traditional sales funnel or by your clients to start building their own sales content. Another reason why your client may decide to buy the rights you offer for sale.
The Upsell
The Upsell part of your offer is straightforward and requires two key elements to increase your revenue. The first is the sales page. This is displayed after the website visitor selects the free report and before going to the download page.
The second key element, which is often overlooked, is the small sales page at the end of the report. That means you get two chances to sell the update to the reader. After reading the report (and I think your report here is well written and valuable) you should see the benefits and future income potential you can get when your prospects are reduced.
As you can see, this process is simple, but I have an interesting variation that I would like to introduce. You see, most One Time offers are not one-time offers. Only static pages with sales content can be accessed again after the guest has downloaded your account and bookmarked the page. If you choose to use a static page, I recommend calling it a "Refresh Page" or an "Order Personalization" page, which will actually do something different than a "One Time Offering" page.
This is the reason, I hope. Being consistent, especially when it comes to churn tactics like OTO, will ensure that your future churn tactics get the respect they deserve and will motivate your customers to take the desired action. The fact that there are one-time offers that aren't actually 'One Time' confirms some people's view that everyone online is a scammer.
If you're going the "one time offer" route, I recommend using a script to implement the one-time nature of the offer. To maximize your long-term performance, you should use OTO to offer a small discount on the renewal price. For example, you decide that the Upgrade to qualify for your report will be $17. You can then discount the OTO, so the price is $12.95 with a price of $17 shown in the Autoresponder's follow-up message on the Upgrade page on the back of the report.
Building that kind of credibility and loyalty to your pricing (as opposed to the fake OTOs that are widely used) will go a long way in ensuring that your next scarcity offer is taken seriously and respected. The result is stronger inventory response (you're teaching that action saves money) and more predictable cash flow for your business.
