How to Make Mental Health Good

The whole world at least 13% of peoples between the age of 10 to 19 are lived with mental disorder..This is latest report according to State of world chlidren reports

THe Importance of Co Production:

It is unusual for researchers to work directly with young people who have experienced mental ill health, but this is becoming increasingly recognised as essential. These young people need to be involved in all aspects of the research process, from conceptualising to and designing a study, to conducting it and interpreting the results.Such a strategy will provide more meaningful science and reduce the possibility of creating unnecessary or unsuitable actions. There is no "silver bullet" for preventing and treating anxiety and depression in young people, according to the overall message of these reviews. Instead, prevention and therapy must rely on a combination of interventions that take into consideration each person's unique needs and circumstances. We also need higher-quality evidence, like large-scale trials with established protocols.

Quest for new therapies:

A class of medications known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, which raise serotonin levels in the brain and are meant to improve emotion and mood, is the most widely used treatment for anxiety and depression in the entire world. However, their limited effectiveness and significant side effects3 have prompted research into additional physiological pathways that may play a role in adolescent depression and anxiety in order to create novel treatments. For instance, scientists have been looking into possible connections between depression and inflammatory diseases such inflammatory bowel disease, cardiovascular disease, and asthma. This is due to the fact that adults with depression frequently also experience these diseases. Additionally, there is proof that altering the gut microbiota during development in mice reduces behaviours associated with anxiety and depression in humans4. This shows that focusing on the gut microbiota throughout adolescence may be an useful way to help young people with their anxiety. In order to target the gut microbiota, Kathrin Cohen Kadosh of the University of Surrey in Guildford, UK, and colleagues looked over previous accounts of therapies that involved dietary changes. These were discovered to have a negligible impact on young people's anxiety5. The authors, however, advise caution before. The collection of review articles for this week delves deeply into the current state of understanding of therapies, both effective and ineffective, for preventing and treating anxiety and depression in young people between the ages of 14 and 24. Young people who had personally experienced anxiety and depression worked as co-investigators on several of the projects. They were involved in the planning and execution of the reviews as well as the analysis of the results.Contrarily, researchers have discovered that, in some cases, enhancing young people's cognitive and interpersonal abilities can be more successful in avoiding and treating anxiety and depression. However, the cause for this is unknown. For instance, according to Marc Bennett at the University of Cambridge in the UK and colleagues6, although the underlying neurobiological mechanisms are unknown, the practise of "decentring" or "psychological distancing" (encouraging a person to adopt an objective perspective on negative thoughts and feelings) can help both prevent and treat depression and anxiety.
