The thing that matters is the quality of the life you lead. Healthy living styles can take whatever shape it may want, but the single biggest factor to a healthy life is your diet. A nutritionist says it's "everything" when it comes to you and your health.
1. Know your diet needs
"My philosophy of food is that you get what you put into your body, and that means your lifestyle needs to match your diet," said Denise Davies, MS, RD, CFC, and the founder of Healthy Life 360 Weight Loss.
Plenty of foods can cause you to overeat or get you sick if you make the wrong choices about them. Your body needs to use the right vitamins to function properly, for instance. You may want to add more protein to your eating plan to keep your heart healthy.
For excess sugars, consider the Hydration Institute. Healthy eating involves a majority of the same things as being physically active. While you're walking and swimming, make sure your energy levels are high enough to keep yourself motivated.
2. Switch up what you eat
It's natural to binge eat all the food you want after eating a binge. Just like how you’re consuming it, you wouldn't necessarily turn to sugar if you learned how to cook with healthy ingredients.
"When in love it can be tempting to eat. For people that are self-conscious or embarrassed about their weight, it can be hard to tell who is dating who, so if you come to an eating disorder then that may be the first sign. Eating disorders can, at first, seem irrational and delusional," says Caleb Whittington, CBT, CRCT, TCCN, and the CEO of Creative D'Ansio Healthcare Systems.
Even with an eating disorder, you want to be careful about what you choose. Turn left, go to left-leaning restaurants, get around chain restaurants or less healthy options.
3. Eat whatever you want
A common symptom of an eating disorder is binging or purging. This is why you shouldn't eat something different each time.
"The foods you eat all the time -- like sweets, fried foods, sugar, and fried foods -- are not the food you should consume," says Whittington.
If you're craving your favorite foods, don't take them for granted. Never try to resist your own body.
4. Stop being attached to a food schedule
One of the most frustrating things with dealing with an eating disorder is how long it can take to eat something. Your body has a natural mechanism that makes sure you only eat what you need. You don't need to do anything to change it.
5. Schedule meditating
Certain meditation techniques improve body image, reduce anxiety, improve sleep and block overeating. Meditation lowers cortisol levels and can help you do the work you need for a healthy life.
6. Move your body
You have to stay active. A health psychologist called Joyce Carol Oates says the lack of movement leads to a healthy eating style that doesn't make the other components of a well-rounded lifestyle.
Once your body gets used to a certain amount of exercise, you can try to add more to your life and habit. There's nothing wrong with an all-day exercise plan. If you only exercise occasionally, that also may help your eating health.
7. Lower the sodium intake
While you're exercising, keep your intake of salt and carbohydrates at a minimum. Some foods contain a lot of salt. Consider what you eat or drink. Pick foods that you can incorporate into a low-sodium plan.
8. Limit what you drink
The beverage in which you drink can affect your eating habits, so it's important to minimize drinking this way.
"We tend to drink more water than we're getting much of our salt from our beverages, so add less to your drinking intake if you can," says Whittington.
9. Reduce salt intake
Moving your body improves your motivation to exercise. If you can get into a healthy habit of eating less saturated fats, high-calorie foods, and sugary drinks, then that might prevent you from binge eating.
10. Improve your sleeping schedule
Eating a low-sodium diet or eating the right foods can improve your sleep. How much exercise you have, when you put the right amount of exercise into your day, can also improve your mood. You're most likely to want to sleep when you get into the habit of getting to bed earlier.
Throughout the article, we emphasized health and physical activity, but just in case you're confused about when or how to start, here's an easy way to start eating the right foods and avoiding the bad ones.
