Weight is best lost when you’re sitting in a chair at work and sleeping in bed.
☆ Yes, that is my real opinion and here’s why:
To lose weight, you need to put your body in a caloric deficit. That is, you need to burn more calories than you consume.
The majority of people think the best way to lose weight is to go to the gym and start burning off calories. If you think like this, you’ll end up feeling trapped inside a cave that is impossibly hard to get out of.
¤ If you were to eat just one snicker or other chocolates.
It would take you two miles to run off the number of calories that you just consumed in about five bites of snickers. You can try all you want, but trying to “run off the junk food” is not going to work.
What you should be doing is working to raise your Basal Metabolic Rate.
Your BMR is simply the number of calories your organs need to function while you perform no activity whatsoever. It is the amount of energy you’d burn if you were to stay in bed all day. The higher you get this number, the more you can eat without going into a caloric surplus.
A 35-year-old woman who is 5′4″ and 140 lbs have a BMR of roughly 1381 calories/day. If this woman wants to lose weight, her goal needs to be to raise this number higher. In essence, she needs to speed up her metabolism. To do this, she can use some or all of the following:
■ Eat plenty of protein at every meal.
☆ Eating food can increase your metabolism for a few hours. This is caused by the thermic effect of food: the extra calories needed to digest, absorb, and process nutrients in your meal.
☆Protein helps to build muscle, and muscle helps to raise your metabolism
■ Drink water
☆Studies have shown that drinking 17 oz of water increases your resting metabolism by 10–30% for about an hour
■ Do High-Intensity Interval Training workouts (HIIT)
☆It can help you burn fat by increasing your metabolic rate even after you leave the gym
■ Lift heavyweight
☆ Muscle is more metabolically active than fat
■ Stand more
☆ Compared with sitting, an afternoon of standing up at work can burn an extra 174 calories.
■ Drink Green Tea or Oolong Tea
☆ These teas have been shown to increase metabolism by 4–5%.
■ Get a good night’s sleep
☆ Lack of sleep is linked to a major increase in the risk of obesity
■ Drink coffee
☆ Studies have shown that the caffeine in coffee can boost metabolism by 3–11%. Just like green tea, it promotes fat burning.
■ Replace cooking fats with coconut oil.
☆ Coconut oil contains a lot of medium-chain fats.
■ Medium-chain fats can increase your metabolism more than the long-chain fats found in foods like butter.
☆ Researchers found in one study that medium-chain fats increased metabolism by 12% compared to long-chain fats at 4%.
● All 9 of these tips will help you raise your metabolic rate. You’ll be burning more calories than ever before and doing it literally in your sleep!
● Losing weight is not an hour of cardio in the gym; it is a lifestyle that will require you to make changes in your day-to-day life to burn more calories while you go about your normal day and night.
