Benefits of Disposable Diapers 👶
1️⃣ Comfortable and Safe
Newborn babies sleep for around 12–16 hours out of 24. This sleep is crucial for their health. Using a cloth nappy can leave the baby’s urine on their skin, causing discomfort and disturbing their sleep.
Initially, my relatives and family members were concerned that using diapers might cause infections or rashes. I was also worried. But my pediatrician explained that if used correctly, diapers actually keep the baby dry. The urine is absorbed inside the diaper, allowing the baby to sleep peacefully.
2️⃣ Maintains Hygiene
Newborns urinate frequently. Cloth nappies often soil the baby’s clothes, bedsheets, and blankets, which then need frequent washing.
Disposable diapers absorb the urine instantly, keeping the surrounding area clean. This keeps the baby’s skin dry, prevents rashes, and promotes healthy skin.
3️⃣ Easy to Use & Travel-Friendly
Disposable diapers are very easy to put on and remove, even during travel. This keeps both the baby’s and parents’ clothes clean.
Since diapers are comfortable, the baby doesn’t fuss during travel, making the journey smooth and stress-free for both the baby and the parents.
4️⃣ Rash-Free Diapers Available
Today, many high-quality anti-rash diapers are available in the market: Babyhug Advance, Bum Tum Overnight Pants, Pampers, Huggies, etc.
These diapers are safe for delicate baby skin and prevent rashes.
From my personal experience, my 4-month-old baby has been using Pampers Premium Care Pants for the last 4 days. They are extremely safe and comfortable. Based on my experience, you can use these diapers with confidence. 😊
⚠️ Disadvantages of Disposable Diapers
1️⃣ Expensive
Babies urinate frequently. To prevent infections and rashes, diapers need to be changed at least every 2–3 hours. This can mean 10–12 diapers a day, which increases monthly costs.
2️⃣ Harmful to the Environment
Disposable diapers are made of plastic and chemical materials, which take a long time to decompose, causing environmental harm.
3️⃣ Risk of Rashes
If diapers are not changed on time (every 2–2.5 hours), rashes may develop. This can lead to infection and fever.
4️⃣ Dependency
Constant use of diapers can prevent babies from sensing when they need to urinate. This can delay potty training, as babies may not recognize the signal for a long time. My daughter sometimes only goes every 2–3 days because she is confused about when to go.
✅ Tips for Using Disposable Diapers
1️⃣ Change Diapers on Time
Babies urinate frequently, and prolonged wetness can cause smell and infection. Changing diapers every 2–3 hours is essential.
2️⃣ Keep the Skin Clean
Wipe the baby’s skin with a dry cloth or baby wipes each time you change the diaper. This saves the hassle of washing cloths repeatedly.
I used Himalaya Shishu Anand Baby Wipes, and later Mother’s Sparsh Plant-Powered Baby Wipes. Both are safe, affordable, and effective.
3️⃣ Choose the Right Diaper
I personally use Pampers Premium Care Pants. They are slightly expensive but very safe for babies. I also let my baby stay diaper-free for 1 hour in the morning before bath and 1 hour at night, which allows the skin to breathe and prevents rashes.
4️⃣ Use Biodegradable Diapers
If possible, opt for biodegradable diapers, which are environment-friendly and safe for nature.
