No.1 What is focus and how does it work –
Joanna remains that first of all it is important to know what is focus and how does it work? You must have commonly heard words like attention, focus, concentration.
Due to the activities happening around us, our attention is always towards some inside or outside stimulus. Stimuli means the thing that attracts our attention, focus means being able to keep our attention towards the stimulus, and concentration means being able to keep our attention on one thing for a long time. Focus is a process, it has many levels in which we learn, improve and adapt. Every person's weaknesses are different, so we cannot solve them with a single technique, so if you find a weakness in yourself which is suitable for you. What spoils your Focus, only then you will be able to improve your Focus by finding a solution to it.
No. 2 specific situation and problem in your system –
The reason for Focus being spoiled is that our automatic or intentional attention is disturbed.
Automatic attention automatically gets disturbed by activities happening around us that cause our mind to feel threatened. Intentional attention being disturbed means when we are unable to concentrate on our task for more than 10 minutes. Intentional attention effect comes from our environment zone, body zone and mind zone. Environment zone Apart from the activities happening around us, other things also affect us like weather, temperature, environment.
Body zone means what state our body is in like sitting in an uncomfortable position, being ill, body posture not being correct.
Mind zone is affected by factors like stress, anxiety, over thinking. So it is important to know which of these three zones you are affected by. To solve this problem, Joanna suggests Destruction Law. In which, write down on this chart when, where and by which activity or zone you get influenced or lose your focus and find a solution for it.
No.3 Motivation Getting motivated is over rated –
You must have heard that to always remain motivated, you should read good books, meditate or do exercise, but all these can motivate you only for some time. No person can remain motivated all the time because our emotions are not the same all the time, they keep changing, sometimes you are happy, sometimes sad, sometimes stressed. Instead of looking for motivation everywhere, it is better to make a list of your goals and responsibilities. Your mindset of wanting to work is a motivation in itself. We are motivated by intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Intrinsic factors in which motivation comes from within us like bill power, patience and desires. Extrinsic are those factors in which factors like money, power, price, reward punishment motivate you.
No 4 build an environment that facilitates your focus–
It is important to have a good environment for the focus. You will not be able to focus while working in a place where there is noise or fighting. To focus, there should be such an environment where there is no disturbing factor which does not affect the body and mind. Joanna says that your space should always be made ergonomic, which means it should be efficient and effective, our important things should be at an arm's distance and chairs, benches, tables should all be in comfort state.
No.5- Manage your mind for a laser sharp focus-
Like body, it is important to take care of the mind, any kind of stress can easily disturb Focus. To refresh our mind, we can do small activities like exercise, meditation and taking breaks in between while working. Keep limited goals for 1 day only. We can divide the goal of one month into sub-goals and check our progress every week, then stress will reduce and your focus on the task will increase. Taking breaks between tasks is a mind rest. During breaks, you can do light activities, like walking in the room, stretching.
No.6 The importance of managing energy not time–
We always hear – “Time is the most valuable resource”
Often people do not know how to manage time but they definitely value time. Our energy level is not the same throughout the day, hence it is difficult for us to spend 80 to 90% of the day in doing tasks. Therefore, rather than time management, you should focus on energy management. You have to see when your energy level is highest and then you have to do the tasks which take the most energy and when the energy level is down then you have to do the tasks with less energy.
