HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR CONFIDENCE AND SELF-LOVE? Mirror Exercise for Confidence and Self-Esteem

Today  I'm going to share with you a potent and potentially life-changing exercise. I learned this exercise from Lisa Nichols, who is a phenomenal inspirational speaker. I did a 30-day course with Lisa called "Speak and Inspire," One of the exercises that were a part of this course is called the mirror exercise. If you want to move forward and let go of the things holding you back, then, in my opinion, this exercise is a must for you. It will help you break the chains of your own limiting beliefs. It will bring healing, release, and celebration. You may think that you don't need any healing or regrets from the past, but try it anyway and see if it makes you feel good. In my opinion, I believe that we all have knots that need to be untangled. Sometimes these knots are visible, but sometimes they are so deep in our subconscious that we may not even be aware of them.

To do this exercise, stand in front of a mirror, look at yourself as if you were looking at your best friend. When we look at our friends, we look at them with more love and compassion. But when we look at ourselves, we look at ourselves with judgment and harshness. So when you stand in front of the mirror, look at yourself as if you were your best friend.

Start by saying your name, and then complete these three sentences with seven different endings.

These three sentences are:

  1.  I am proud of you for...
  2.  I forgive you for...
  3.  I commit to you today that...

For example, if I were to do this exercise, I would say something like:

  • Shivam, I'm proud of you for getting out of bed today.
  • I'm proud of you for having the courage to come in front of the mirror again.
  • Shivam, I'm proud of you for exercising today.
  • Shivam, I am proud of you for having that difficult conversation. So you will think of seven different things to be proud of yourself.

The next set of sentences things that you want to forgive yourself for.

So again, if I were to do this exercise, it might look something like this:

  • Shivam, I forgive you for being lazy.
  • Shivam, I forgive you for eating unhealthy food.
  • Shivam, I forgive you for being mean to person x.
  • Shivam, I forgive you for losing your temper yesterday.

The next set of sentences regards commitments that you want to make to yourself.

For example, I might say:

  • Shivam, I commit to you that I will say no when I want to say no.
  • Shivam, I commit to you today that I will meditate for five minutes every day.
  • Shivam, I commit to you that every day I will find three things to be grateful for.
  • Shivam, I commit to you that today I will prioritize self-care.

So I think you got the idea. In total, you will be speaking seven times three, which is 21 sentences, all starting with your name. Remember, be honest with yourself as it is just you who is listening. Lisa says that she did this exercise for six months straight, every morning, which helped her heal from her past abusive relationship. But for you, she recommends doing it for 30 days straight, and then if you feel good and feel like you need to do it more, you can do it for as long as you want.

Every new day, you can complete these three sentences with the same things or different things, or some might be the same, and some will be different. When you do it, the first few days, it might seem not natural. It might seem difficult, especially the forgiving part. You may feel like you're just saying I forgive you for XYZ without actually meaning it, without actually forgiving yourself. And that is okay. It is still effective. When you do it over and over again, after some days, you will begin actually to forgive yourself.

So trust the process and do the exercise by standing in front of the mirror even though it might feel stupid or awkward. You must look yourself in the eyes while standing in front of the mirror for this exercise to be effective. It might feel like you're just saying sentences; what's that going to do? But do not underestimate the power of the subconscious. When your subconscious hears these sentences day over day, even though you might not feel a change happening, a change is happening - deep inside you. A transformation is happening.

I diligently worked for 30 days, and I noticed all the benefits that I mentioned at the beginning of this article. So I urge you to try it. It will get easier over time, and it might just change your life! My sincere hope is that you will notice a positive transformation in your life by doing this exercise. And to make you accountable that you will actually do this exercise, I want you to comment below saying, "I will do this exercise for 30 days." Then after those 30 days are over, I want you to write another comment saying, "I did it for 30 days and how it helped me". And if it's too personal to share, you're welcome to message me privately.

I hope you like this article. If yes, then share it with your friends.
