How to get started with your first blog?

Needless to say, blogging is one of the best ways to find rich keyword content on your site, find your message in search engines and get traffic to your website. But how do you get started blogging?

If you are thinking of starting a blog there are many options. A good way to start blogging quickly (and for free) is to use an ‘independent’ online service like WordPress or Google Blogger. These are free, customizable tools that support new and highly developed bloggers. Too bad you can't use your website's domain name. For example, if you use Blogger, your blog address will be something like "your blog.blog spot.com" .Although you may not be able to link this to your current website, search engines will not be able to give you 'credit' for additional content as it is a different domain. However, with a different link, you can still benefit from the additional exposure you can find on the blog.

These free services offer a powerful software tool that balances value, quality, and usability. While some people prefer to use basic blogging services, they can also really benefit from the 'built-in' benefits of WordPress or Blogger and its large user community.

One of the most significant benefits of these services is ease of use, as well as improved service performance compared to other blog software applications. Blogger and WordPress doesn't need you to know any ‘coding’ and let you create and post to your blog with easy-to-use icons such as one can see in the word processing process. Having the ability to use a program like this allows people to build blogs that are high-tech, and perfect as air-filled websites.

If you are occasionally ‘offline’ you can benefit from WordPress’s ability to import posts. This means you can integrate your blog while offline and download it later. If you are already using another blogging service you can also submit your posts to Blogger or WordPress.

Another benefit of these services is their large widget or theme libraries that allow you to quickly add useful features, and styles that look good to your blog. A very simple interface for drag and drop allows you to add features such as an RSS server with a few clicks.

Another option you could consider is a blogging software that you can integrate directly into your website. Some hosting offers like GoDaddy allow you to use your existing domain name for your blog. The advantage is that the content of your blog becomes part of what search engines see in your domain. In these cases you may have to pay an additional monthly fee to your hosting provider. Also, Google Blogger lets you publish on an FTP site, which means you can blog from your domain. You lose some flexibility in the ‘out of the box’ service, but with a little effort you can have a custom template and a great posting capability that stays within your domain.

As your needs evolve dramatically or if you are a professional blogger you can also consider blogging software that can be integrated directly into your website. Another thing to consider is the Blog. BBlog is an open source, PHP / MySQL application. If you do not know what the last sentence means, this is not for you. If you know, you may benefit from the extended recovery that an integrated app can offer.

Finally, you have a wide, comprehensive list of less expensive (or free) options to get you started.
