BMX racing is an exciting sport for young people. For children, the basic bike should have 20-inch wheels. Riders under the age of six can use any type of bike they have, even if it is not a real BMX freestyle bike. These little ones are probably still riding bicycles with wheels as low as 12 inches. Some tracks have race wheels for big wheels.
A cruiser or a mountain bike with 24-inch or 26-inch wheels may be fine, too, but check ahead with your local track for advice. Many tracks will allow you to ride a mountain bike in the "Cruiser" class.
Any bike you use should be equipped this way. Remove all signal indicators. Remove the kickstand and chainguard to prevent accidental injury.
The bike should have pads over the top tube, trunk, and crossbar. Most BMX freestyle bikes still have these pads. If your bike does not have them, adding this safety feature will cost about $ 5.
A bicycle must have at least one active brake. The coaster brake is fine if that is the only thing the bike has. The bike must be in a rideable working condition.
Finally, fasten the paper plate to the handles. This will be your plate number. When you get to the track, they will give you a number to put on. That number will point you to the judges and fans as you run.
Safety is important
To protect the head, a protective helmet is essential. Depending on the rules of the track, this may need to be a full face mask or a hat with a different mouthguard. Some tracks will embrace any kind of inexpensive motocross-style helmet.
Wearing protective clothing is a must. Normal long pants or jeans will protect the rider’s legs. To protect the arm, wear a long-sleeved shirt. Since passengers will be using their feet, they should wear sturdy shoes that they are comfortable with while riding with them.
Although you can run without gloves, wearing them is a good idea. Make sure they fit snugly and do not interfere with the movement of your hands. Lastly, bring bicycle tools and an air pump in case repairs are needed.
Ready to run
In order to run, a potential rider needs to find a track. Local bike shops may have information on the nearest track. Alternatively, visit the websites of the National Bicycle League (NBL) or the American Bicycle Association (ABA). These are the themes that authorize the BMX race. They provide advice and insurance on local tracks. As a member of the NBL or ABA, you will have some medical insurance if you are injured on the track during the race and do not have any other insurance.
The parent or guardian must accompany the rider to give permission for the child to run. A birth certificate should be shown as proof of age. Most tracks charge between $ 15 and $ 35 for a year-old racing license. There is also an entry fee for each race, which is usually between $ 6 and $ 10.
For your first tour of a song, get there about two hours before the start of the first race. Get a registration tent or trailer and sign up.
Then walk around the track. Try to remember where the jump is. Next is the time for exercise. Put on your helmet and other gears and follow the others at the first gate. See what everyone is doing and where they are going. The beginner should place his front wheel next to the first gate, with one foot on the pedal and the other on the floor. Start pedaling when the gate falls. Walk slowly the first few times until you feel comfortable.
After practice, races will be posted. People in the registration tent can tell you where your particular race will be sent and how the race really works. You will be in a group or "car" with other passengers about your age. Sleep with them on stage. When your team is called, go up and run! This will probably happen three or four times, depending on the system the track is using, and then it will end. If you win, you may win a trophy. Even if you don't win, it is guaranteed that you will enjoy your time.
