Break it down
The thought of doing it all at once is overwhelming, and it can make you feel like you have so much to do that you don't even know where to start. Think about everything you need to do to research and write down each item. Then break it down into small chunks that you can tackle one at a time. Don't focus on learning everything now, just think about what you can do right now. As you complete each task you've broken down, tick or cross it off. Watching your list get smaller and smaller is a huge motivator.
Remember why
Think about why you need to study and why you want to be successful in your course. Do you need to pass to graduate? Is this course in the field you are looking to join? Do you like the material even though it's difficult? Do you want to make your family proud? Want to prove to yourself that you can do it?
Whatever your reason, come back to it every time you don't want to study. It might be helpful to post this somewhere where you'll see it often.
Start with something easy
Learning is hard. It's also boring. That's why you don't want to do that. Start by reviewing terms you already know well, or do an easy or even crazy learning task like organizing your flashcards.
These simpler tasks can give you the boost you need to keep going. It can also give you confidence if you are procrastinating studying because you think you know nothing.
Try a few strategies
With so many strategies and tips, there is sure to be at least one that works for you. Test a few strategies and see if they make a difference, and remember that many of these strategies work well together. Studying is hard work and often uninteresting, but these motivational techniques can get you started and even make it more sustainable.
Create a clean workspace
Having a clean and organized space keeps your mind clear and organized. It may sound odd or silly, but you may find that you can think more clearly when cleaning up clutter. If you need a break or want to procrastinate a few more minutes, clean up your workspace. When your space is cluttered, your subconscious will take note of everything you need to do and what you need to clean up. Sometimes I don't even realize how messy my workspace is until I clean it up, and suddenly I can think more clearly.
Going to the library or coffee shop
When you sit down to study and find yourself watching on social media, it's easy to become jealous that everyone is having a good time. It's also easy to start thinking that you're the only person in the world currently studying. In a coffee shop or in a library, you will find many other people reading, studying and working quietly. It is encouraging to see others model good academic behavior.
Make a study group
If you are a social person, studying can be difficult because you don't like lonely silence. It can be motivating to have a group of people to study with. Your study group might even be your parents or a friend out of class - they can help quiz you and just keep you company while you study if you're going crazy with silence and loneliness.
Just started
No reason. Sit down and start learning. Often the hardest part is getting started, so if you just sit down and get started, you may find yourself in a pinch. If you think this trick might work for you, learn it. Literally, right now - stop reading this article and go to school!
Finding the perfect place to study
In college, I used to study in a comfortable chair in the lobby of an unused building. I feel at ease, with minimal distractions, and I'm in a place that encourages me to do my job. In high school, I loved learning outside our backyard. I love being outside and enjoying the fresh air after being stuck at school all day.
Website & App Blocker
This is a classic learning motivator because it literally removes anything that distracts you, assuming your distractions are digital. If you need a little help with your self-control, these are for you.
