A routine is a pattern that is repeated every day, to maintain the regularity of the day or week. This would then be followed by a specific time in which it will occur again each day. For example, the weekend has two different days for Friday and Saturday. As you can see, this isn’t any different, but can sometimes be different because of holidays or other social events. I believe that routines have a very strong effect on your life and your relationships. The fact that the time of the day when you are supposed to do something is the first thing that brings to you the desire to fulfill the task, shows how determined you are to complete it. Another thing that happens if the person follows a routine every day is that he/she might stop doing things that seem unrelated to the routine. When you follow a routine, you start going to sleep early and you wake up at a late time each day, with no difference between the night and the morning. When you do this, you will fall asleep very soon after having slept throughout the entire night and you will stay awake for about 6 hours before waking up for the next one and so on. Some studies show that people who don’t sleep have lower levels of concentration and stress and this may also lead them to drink alcohol as well as take drugs that bring more comfort during their sleepless nights. Therefore, you must set a routine that gives you rest, which I have tried myself. So let’s get right into how to make a daily routine.
1) Pick out the Routine You Want to Follow
I have created here a list of routines that you could try and write down on paper right now and keep track of your habits and your lifestyle. Write down all of the activities and the times in which your routine occurs daily in the top 5. Also, list 3 or 4 things that you like doing because they would help you feel motivated and would give your routine some structure. On the bottom right-hand side, you should then add a few words describing your schedule (i.e. sleep time, eating times, sleeping, etc.) so your mind remembers which activity it is which means that you would know what kind of meal you would eat if it’s a breakfast activity, what you would do if it’s dinner and so on. Do note the type of meals in each slot on the right side so you know what kinds of foods you would choose and then use this information to create your recipe or your menu for the day when it comes to meals and if you want to use snacks for lunch or dinner. Once you have all of these pieces set down, go back to the last thing that happened on Monday or Tuesday and do everything else. Start making your calendar the best way to remember what happens in your days. That way, you won’t forget anything or lose track of all the things that happen in your routine. Even though there might not be an easy-to-follow routine, there would always be one that you follow that makes you feel good about yourself every day and that makes you happy.
2) Keep Track, Every Day
It’s important to keep track of what you are doing today and in the following days. If you can, please note in the “Routines and Habits” column the kind of habits you want to stick with and the ones that you don’t want that you want to change. Be sure to keep a detailed record with your journal so you wouldn’t forget everything you did yesterday if you didn’t put it on a list. Take note every time your phone goes off, keep a list of calls you are supposed to answer. Then you could have similar lists prepared before every workday so you don’t lose the routine and keep track of your actions. If you don’t write, you are probably not keeping track of everything anymore because when you open a new email, it takes 24-hours to notice it. But if you keep a log of everything written in your logbook, you don’t need to call up your friends and family if you don’t know whether there is someone at home waiting for you who is going to pick you up.
3) Don’t Let Your Schedule Change Due to Stress
It’s easy to be stressed and worried if you don’t have a routine and you keep changing your schedule all the time. Stress always causes you to skip the next day and the next week sometimes because it’s always hard to come into a routine. This will affect your motivation to start the routine and you might lose track of all your activities that aren’t getting done daily, which are most probably related to your day. It's not a good habit not to carry out daily so you don’t end up feeling stressed, but in general, when it comes to routine, you want to avoid stress as much as possible to be able to enjoy every moment you spend with others.
4) Think About Your Environment
You never know, especially in busy cities like London. Sometimes the routine just becomes too difficult for me and my friends. One evening, in particular, I was unable to find enough time to cook something healthy and then we couldn’t find the ingredients to cook our main dish and so we ended up ordering takeaway and were told that we were going to miss out on extra food while we were away in Dubai. After all that stress, I was thankful that we had chosen to travel on the budget and it was cheaper than spending money in another country where the weather wasn’t that pleasant and we weren’t allowed to stay warm. There is so much I wish people would do when choosing to live abroad. If you only live in small towns or rural areas, there are only so many places that you can go to. However, starting a diary is the best place to start and that is why we chose to write everything down, in the beginning, to save ourselves from worrying about missing out on the best experiences that life offers us as soon as we travel somewhere new.
There are also free online tools that allow you to do your homework and find out exactly where you are living and why you were moved to that area and the reason it’s considered a cheap place to live in. And, finally, because I am still planning to move to another city soon, I’ve thought about finding a job in another part of the world and I’m interested in learning English so I am giving you my advice on where are the cheapest places online right now to learn and get a job and you are welcome if you want to check out some of these tools. Find one or two months ago (in April 2018), you saw the video that talks about the 10 Best Universities and Which are Free & Cheap. Here are some results based on Google searches that I found for university savings and students looking to be ahead on saving. With that, I hope you can keep busy with this year and you could make your year!
