HOW TO GET CLEAR SKIN

Skin that glows and is clear can seem like the pinnacle of beauty. Instagram influencers who are clearly not just trying to sell us something tell us that having naturally clear skin is achievable. Finding a way to acquire clear skin that stays clear can seem like a tall goal, though, since stress, hormones, and our craving for sweets all work against us. Or maybe that last part is just me.

Marketers are well aware of the fact that everyone wants to present their best self. Today's equivalent of snake oil is skin care lotions and potions, and there is a ton of discussion about the capital-B on the internet. The best method for clearing up acne and keeping skin clear. As clinical dermatologist and researcher at Thank Your Skin Dr. Enrizza Factor, MD puts it, the truth is that some skin care advice will benefit your skin type and some won't. Dr. Factor states, "I think skin care is very personal." There is really no right or wrong [method] as long as you enjoy the procedure and your skin improves.

Firstly, wash your face twice a day.

As per Dr. Liv Kraemer, MD, a dermatologist and the founder of Dr. Liv Skin Clinic & Dr. Liv Skincare, washing your face twice a day, once upon waking up and once before bed, can eliminate bacteria, dead skin cells, and excess oil. Don't go overboard, though. "To avoid damaging your skin and creating a pathway for bacteria, wash your hands no more than twice," she advises. (Is there one instance where this rule isn't followed? The days that you exercise! To “cleanse away sweat and bacteria,” Dr. Kramemer advises, make sure you always wipe your makeup off before working out and do another wash after.)

Apply a gentle cleanser that foams

If you have skin that is prone to acne, Dr. Kramemer suggests using a "foam cleanser with fruit acids, glycolic acid, or lactic acid." These components will gently help remove dead skin cells from your face. When washing your face, you should also take your time. According to her, "Don't just quickly rub it all over and rinse." "Apply pressure to the foam with your fingers, slowly and deliberately."

Try using toner.
It's time to "shift (your) definition of what a toner is," advises board-certified dermatologist and Idriss Dermatology founder Dr. Shereene Idriss, if you solely associate toner with drying out your skin. "Toners come in all shapes and sizes in the modern world," she explains. "There are toners that give an extra boost of that certain something, as well as hydrating and exfoliating toners."

Retain moisture without causing pore blockage.
It may seem paradoxical, but dry skin could be the real issue if you're experiencing oiliness. Oil glands are prompted to generate more oil when the skin is dry, which is why it's critical for all skin types—oily or not—to consistently moisturize! According to Dr. Factor, moisturizer does more for your skin than just hydrate it; it also helps "lock in" all the goodies you just applied. "I like to use a lot of moisturizer that doesn't leave a tacky residue and has a light texture," she explains. Additionally, because not all moisturizers are made equal, seek out those that are marked as "non-comedogenic," as these won't clog your pores.
