Hair thinning and hair loss
Causes
Temporary hair loss often occurs after an illness or period of stress or because of skin infections such as ringworm. Chemical hair treatments, hairstyles, and hats can lead to the problem. Some drugs and long-term illnesses cause hair loss, and women may lose hair temporarily after childbirth. Sometimes women who inherit the trait develop thin hair later. You can do little for hereditary hair problems, but treatments may reverse some of its effects. So try following steps to slow hair thinning and encourage hair growth.
The ten steps to follow
- Fad and crazy diets may contribute to hair loss. Make sure that you include plenty of protein and iron in your diet. We know that protein is good for building and repairing tissues of a body, including hair. Make sure that about one-sixth of your total calorie intake comprises foods such as meat, fish, cheese, and nuts. Iron also helps maintain healthy hair, so eat plenty of iron-rich foods such as cereals,.beans, fish, poultry, and leafy green vegetables.
- Avoid using hair dyes and treatments to perm or straighten hair. They contain chemicals that may make your brittle and weak from the roots. And if you decide to use a hair straightener or a curling iron, make sure not to leave it on one area of your for too long and move it every ten seconds or so.
- Don't wear your hair in a style that pulls on your scalp for long hours, or wear a scarf or hat continously unless you have to wear headgear for your work. Tight ponytails, cornrows, braids, and anything else that pulls on the small hairs that make up your hairline can cause hair loss.
- Let your hair dry naturally if possible, rather than using a hairdryer. Don't pull on your hair with a brush or comb when it is wet.
- If your hair is thinning, a good haircut makes a difference. Short, blunt cuts can make the hair appear thick and voluminous.
- If you are in the early stages of hereditary hair loss, you can try a preparation containing minoxidil that may restore hair. (consult your physician)
- An easy way to incorporate scalp massage is to perform it while in a shower, after applying shampoo or conditioner. By moving your fingertips in circular, slow movement around the whole head, you will reduce stress and promote hair regrowth at the same time.
- Natural and organic hair oils like coconut oil. Almond oil, olive oil, etc. are increasingly popular as a healthier alternative; these are easy to find online and in health stores. A few drops added to your hair during massage is a great way to enhance its effectiveness and take advantage of all the oils have to offer,
- Use hair products that are aimed at restoring hair growth. This list of hair loss shampoos offers various products that contain numerous oils and minerals that may aid in hair growth, destroy bacteria that can cause hair breakage and loss, increase blood circulation to the scalp.
- Even then, if the problem persists or gets worse, make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible.
