How to Fitness: the great adventure of training in quarantine

Videoconference classes are not only routines but, also spaces to socialize. In addition, teachers indicate when an exercise is not safe and encourage them not to give up. The year was 2012. Um, who was born in India, had been working in our country for four years and at that time was taking classes with me, but her next destination was Egypt, and she was very sorry that we could not continue training together. Augusto, from San Miguel, worked in a carpentry shop and although the distance was not a major problem, his great shyness did not allow him to even go near a gym. That's how I started giving classes via videoconference, the same technological solution for completely different problems. Eight years later, due to the coronavirus pandemic, this modality has become more than necessary, whether it is to carry out a medical consultation, celebrate a birthday or take a class. We are aware that in this reality that we live in, the virtual is more normal and uncertainty is already making us sleepy, gyms do not have an opening date, and only in a few places can you go for a run. We also know that training is about feeling better, and that doing so lightens the burden of this moment. There are gyms that offer their classes live on different platforms. With this, not only a class is held, but also a meeting of friends, a talk, a ritual to take off pajamas, put on gym clothes, have a schedule and a moral commitment to have fun for a while and wash away guilt for excesses of carbs during the lockdown. In this quarantine, I have enjoyed adding many of my older students to this modality, but I enjoy it, even more, when I see the joy they have for having managed to train. There are many apps to download to your cell phone and various videos to build your training plan. But the fundamental advantage that you have by doing classes via videoconference is that you will feel more accompanied, that "your teacher" will correct you if you are doing an exercise that is not safe for you, and he will encourage you when he sees that you are about to loosen up. And when your class ends you can stay for a while chatting and generating a commitment for the next class that, without a doubt, makes a difference. These moments put us to the test, sedentary inertia and social isolation are not good companies. The uncertainty and the bombardment of news are not very encouraging. But we, the teachers, are here for you in these difficult times. It is only a matter of will. Get in touch, and get going because we all come out of this together and, when you have to get going, you're going to need strong legs, that's why you have to work on them now. That does not decline.
