How to find leads and projects if you are a NEW contractor????

Start again?

If you've been in the construction business for a while, you've probably gotten used to new projects because you've built up trust and contacts. But what if you are starting your own construction company or planning to enter a new market or area? In this article, I will review the best possible sources or ways to get customers for your construction business.

Offer management platforms

Think of online platforms as job boards and research tools. There are many platforms, and many of them specialize in specific markets or niches. If you find the right platform, you could probably end up finding a new project fairly quickly. There are platforms that share project information, including architects, general contractors, specialty contractors, and other contractors.  They will share contact information and their details. Another type of platform is one that actually has tenders already underway, such as UP BORE. There you can apply for these tenders, receive documentation and offer your bid if the contract falls within your scope. It doesn't stop there; these platforms are probably the best source for finding projects and leads. The downside of these sites isn't always the price, but in most cases it is. They tend to be expensive, but worth it if you've chosen the right platform for your region.

Word of mouth

Construction is about building relationships. You should go out and talk about yourself, so everyone in your network knows you are a builder and can spread your message. It is not easy for general contractors to find new suppliers to work with because one mistake can cost a lot. They tend to be vigilant. Therefore, they always choose to work with those they know or have heard good recommendations about. Of course, price also plays a big role, and they will take the risk of choosing the cheapest offer against a supplier they have worked with before or who trusted a referral.

Social network

Social media is the slowest but could end up being the most effective way to build trust in yourself, your company and your services. People who see that you are socially active will slowly mark you or your business in their minds as those who provide great service and will remember you immediately if they need your services. This step can take a long time before the first results are tangible, and you need to be active often. If you need to get new projects for a short period of time, then this step is not recommended, as it has value only in the long term.

Website

Creating a website is a must. A website alone will not bring you new customers, but it is your business card for your business. All of your clients will check your website before they order anything from you to confirm that they are making the right decision to work with you. But don't make things too complicated; you offer construction services, so you don't need a high-end website. All you need for your website is to know who you are, what services you offer, what projects you have already implemented, who your clients are, and some referrals are valuable.

Conclusions

There are many ways to get your first customer, but offer management platforms are probably the best place to start. These platforms are usually full of ongoing and upcoming projects or tenders. There you can get your first clients and start negotiations. Don't forget networking and socializing as well. Your client will likely research your company and services before making a final decision. Having them hear about you or see your previous works will help you stand out significantly.
