How to do yoga at home – Practice and Top Tips

In the modern world, Patanjali is widely known as the father of yoga, but did you all know that the origins of yoga are already thousands of years before Patanjali, the most famous quote from Astana guru Patti, join "Practice and Everything is coming". By these words, I believe they mean that by continuously opening up the body and mind through yoga, the truth is revealed to you in time, and with truth comes a deeper peace.

For many of us, establishing a regular yoga practice can be a daunting task. Here are some tips to help you get started.

1. Create a Comfortable Space for Your Yoga Practice

If you have a spare room you can dedicate to your yoga, great! Keeping your yoga mat unrolled and outside at all times is definitely inviting.

However, most of us need to be more flexible and carve out a space when we want to practice. Try and find a place where it is peaceful and quiet, with as much space around you as possible. A blank piece of wall can also come in handy, as a wall is a great support. If you want, it can also be nice and helpful to create some atmosphere with candles or incense sticks.

Things like candles and incense are just extras, and in no way necessary to practice yoga. You can do yoga anywhere as long as you have enough space around you without the risk of hitting tables, chairs, etc. I have practiced in the living room with my husband, having breakfast and reading the paper, even commenting now and then. Not ideal, but I have done my practice nonetheless, which is the most important message of this article.

Build the best space you can and enjoy your practice!

2. Get Your Yoga Stuff

The market for yoga mats is huge, but it is worth paying a little more for a good quality mat that suits your needs and lasts a long time. Blocks are a great addition, but they can be replaced with books and other household items. Having a bolster is nice too, but over the years I used a pile of pillows and blankets instead.

There are no prerequisites for practicing accessories or even a yoga mat... just be creative! Share quote

Accessories and even a yoga mat aren't a prerequisite for practicing: I've been to places where there was no yoga mat, and I found a piece of carpet to practice on. I have also practiced on beds in hotel rooms where there was no space to carry mats. Just be creative... no excuses

3. Be Safe, Avoid Injury

This is a tip that has no shortcuts. Always watch your limits and be especially mindful of weak areas of your body. If you feel any pain, adjust, soften, come out of the pose if necessary. Do not force or push.

Warm up your body properly before doing more advanced poses, and keep checking if the pose feels right. Be especially careful during transitions between poses or when going in or out of poses – these are moments of potential risk of injury because we pay less attention to our alignment.

4. Choose Your Yoga Style / Routine

Something energizing, like Vinyls Flow, to get the juices flowing or something more gentle and restorative, to calm your body and mind? The more you do yoga, the more you learn the effects of different exercises, and the more you learn to recognize what it is your body and mind need at different times.

If you choose an online class, don't get bogged down in reading too many class descriptions. The nature of the mind is to find the perfect square to solve everything. That class does not exist; You'll have to make it yourself. You can also decide to choose a yoga program where we have put together a series of classes that fit well together or choose from playlists, playlists of classes compiled by your fellow members and Ektaryoga teachers.

Choose a genre, teacher, specific use and preferred class duration (or a combination of these) from the filters on the class page, look for a title that speaks to you and go for it! The way you make the class perfect for you is to practice with full awareness, with as little resistance as possible. If there's a part you don't like, take a breath from it and watch your reactions. Remember that how you react to the mat depends on how you react in daily life. In daily life, you will also face situations that you do not like and do not want to change or are unable to change. Remember the words of Patti, join - "Practice yourself and all is coming".

Over time, your yoga practice on your mat will help you become more of what you have.
