The most famous saying of Ashtana Guru Pattabhi Joys is "Practice and all will come". I believe that this phrase means that by continuously practicing yoga and opening the mind and body, the truth will eventually become clear and a deep sense of calm will come.
Establishing a regular yoga practice can be a challenge for many of us. Here are some tips to get you up and running.
1. Provide a comfortable space for yoga practice.
It would be great if there was a free space that could be used for yoga. Having a yoga mat spread out and always available is definitely tempting.
But most of us need to be more adaptable and create space if we want to practice. Given the usefulness of the wall as a prop, its empty parts are also useful. If desired, lighting a candle or incense stick will lift your spirits and make you feel better.
Candles and incense sticks are optional and not required for yoga at all. You can practice yoga anywhere with enough space around you without worrying about bumping into tables, chairs, etc. While my spouse read the newspaper and ate breakfast, I practiced in the living room, adding occasional comments. It's not ideal, but I managed to implement the points in this article.
Think outside the box and stretch out on the mat. Do the best practice area you can and have fun!
2. Buy yoga equipment.
Really, all you need is a yoga mat. If possible, it should stay in place. The market for yoga mats is large, but it's worth paying a little more for a quality mat that will meet your needs and last very long. Blocks are a great addition, but books and other household items can be used instead. It's nice to have a bolster, but over the years I've replaced it with stacks of pillows and blankets.
No yoga mat or other equipment is required to practice. If yoga mats aren't available, find a practice carpet. Even in hotel rooms where there was no space for a mat, I practiced on a mattress. Use your imagination. It doesn't provide a good reason.
3. STAY SAFE AND AVOID HARM.
There are no shortcuts to this advice. Always be aware of your limitations and pay special attention to your body's weaknesses. The neck, spine and knees are particularly sensitive areas. If uncomfortable, make adjustments, soften the pose, or exit. Do not push or apply force.
Warm up before attempting more difficult positions. Always check if it feels good in a pose. Be extra careful when entering and exiting positions or changing poses. We tend to pay less attention to alignment during these times, which can lead to injury.
4. Select a yoga plan or style.
What do you do when you lie down on the mat? The first thing to consider is what your body and mind need.
Is it something stimulating like nyasa flow, or something more calming and relaxing to calm the body and mind? The more you practice yoga, the more you realize the benefits of different techniques and the different needs your body and mind have at different times.
If you take an online course, don't spend too much time reading the course description. The human mind is designed to find the ideal category for any problem. This class doesn't exist, so you have to create it yourself. Also, choose from one of our yoga programs, which are collections of courses that work well together, or one of our playlists, which are collections of classes taught by both EkhatYoga teachers and created by other members of the community. You can also
Choose your style, teacher, specific usage, and ideal lesson length (or a combination thereof) from the filters on the course page and get started! . Breathe where you feel uncomfortable while tracking your reaction. Remember, how you behave on the mat affects how you behave every day. Even in our daily lives, we sometimes come across situations that we don't want to change, or that we don't want to change. Remember the advice of Pattabhi Joys.
Practicing on a yoga mat gradually allows you to give yourself to the world as it is. You will give up on change and discover ways to resist the status quo. Then you'll be better able to put that attitude to good use in your life off the mat. I assure you that peace comes from being able to accept the outrageous.
5. Always Relax in Savasana
After a yoga session, it is important to give your body enough time to relax in Savasana. The benefits of exercise must be absorbed by the nervous system over time. Otherwise, you may feel overly tense after your yoga practice, especially after a tough yoga class.
6. Do Yoga Consistently
Doing yoga once a week is also beneficial. Every day is great, as is 3 times a week. What are the characteristics for you? If reaching your goals is very important to you, set a goal to practice three times a week, and if you achieve it and be proud of yourself, set a goal to practice every day, Much better than feeling guilty if you can only do it three times...a week. I tend to skip even more exercises when I feel like I've failed. Be honest, set sensible goals, and take action whenever possible. A 10 minute yoga session is still considered practice and is valid.
7. Have fun practicing!
Don't try too hard. If you don't love practicing yoga, you can't keep doing it. It should be what you've been waiting for. If you feel that yoga is becoming too much of a hassle, you may want to try a different yoga style or yoga teacher.
8. Start practicing on the mat and everything will follow.
