Obesity is now known as an epidemic in the health community. Obesity leads to type two diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease or stroke and an increased risk of cancer. With all of these health risks, there is a general improvement in quality of life, so losing weight is one of the best things you can do for yourself.
Whatever we may believe, there is no magical solution to weight loss. The body will expel excess fat when it needs more calories to function, by the needs you put in on a particular day than the amount of calories you are feeding. It's very simple. So, to lose weight, you need to reduce the number of calories you consume, as well as increase the amount you burn.
There are a wide range of options to choose from when looking for a weight loss plan. They all often spend a lot of time explaining what to eat, in what quantities and at what time, or even in any combination. But some of them emphasize the importance of exercise - not only for weight loss, but also for your general health and well-being. Exercise is very important when trying to lose weight for a number of reasons:
First, when you start eating less, your metabolism slows down somewhat. Exercising helps to boost your metabolism back to an efficient level. Second, as mentioned, exercise burns more calories so you can lose weight faster and be motivated in your endeavors. Third, exercise actually releases endorphins, which boost your mood.
Exercise does not have to mean spending hours in the gym or being bothered by tiring workouts. In fact, in order for you to adhere to it for a long time, exercise must be something you enjoy. Start by increasing the size of your activity as a whole. Climb the stairs as much as you can. Park past the mall door when you go shopping. Take a walk in the park or in the neighborhood you like and bring a dog or friend. Take dance or martial arts lessons.
Once you become generally more active, it will be easier and more natural to engage in regular exercise. What you need to do in the end to get regular, noticeable health benefits. Raise your heart rate to a burning level of fat 3 times a week for 20 minutes or more. However, if you do not want to go to the gym, there are other ways. Videos and DVDs are now available for all types of exercise. This way you can change your routine at any time so that you do not get bored with what you are doing. Try aerobics, kickboxing, yoga or any activity you like to be comfortable in your own home.
If you have physical limitations that prevent you from exercising, you may find another way to increase the level of your activity. Water aerobics is a great option for those with joint problems or low mobility because it reduces the stress caused by your body weight. But you still get resistance that will challenge your muscles from the water. There are even classes and videos that allow you to exercise while sitting.
No matter what type of exercise you choose, it is important to stay motivated and have fun. Try to mobilize a group to turn it into a social event. Or get a pedometer that tracks how far you can walk and see how many miles you can walk in a week. Create a competition among your friends or family members and create something special (not diet related!) For the winner to experience the kind of exercise you expect, which will quickly become a regular part of your healthy lifestyle.
