The kids are gone, and now you'll suddenly find yourself with an extra room in the house. Unless you're in dire need of a home office, why not turn this extra room into a game room? After all, you've worked hard, now it's time to play, and the game room can be a room full of excitement and fun.
There was a time when you could only afford Gameroom luxury if you had a basement, and that usually meant a sofa and a billiard table. However, in this age of technology, the game room will probably have a big-screen TV and a game console with a lot of video games. Very few people will still have a billiard table. One reason is that most rooms are not as large as a basement and the billiard table will take up most of the space available.
Since this should be a family room or a gathering place for you and your friends to have fun, why not add a game table that you can use to play board games, and maybe football. Table, or air hockey game table. It won't take up as much room as a pool table. If it's within your budget, a joke box can add to the fun and atmosphere!
What is the best way to decorate this room? What colors should you use? What about wallpapers? Below are some ideas you might want to consider.
First, make sure to use bright colors. Stay away from dark colors - no one wants to play in a dark room. Use "fun" colors such as light green, light yellow, and light orange, but try to use orange only as an accent color. You should not paint the whole wall orange. Bright colors will raise the level of excitement in the room, while dark colors will only bring sadness to the room.
In addition to painting the game room in bright colors, you may want to add colorful borders. There are so many samples to choose from! If your game room theme is more geared towards board games or card games, look for borders with tables, chairs, or maybe poker card graphics. If you do not find exactly what you are looking for, then look for boundaries that represent fun, excitement, and celebration. You should also try to have boundaries that both like. Also, keep in mind the colors. In other words, try to stay away from colors like pink.
If the game room allows it, try to separate the room so that your friends and family can easily move from one part of the room to another. For example, you might want to designate a part of a room as a card and/or board game area and place the table in that part of the room. Another area of the room can be designated as a TV area. Here, you can play video games or watch Super Bowl or other sports games. If possible, try to have something for everyone.
As mentioned above, if it's within your budget, a joke box can add to the fun. You can also use stereo (maybe with surround sound?) To add music to the room. Another great thing is the karaoke machine. Make sure there are lots of melodies along with songs, not just for kids but for adults too!
Consider hosting a "Decorate the Game Room" party. Invite your friends and family and add them to a selection of colors, borders, games, music, and more. Together you can make it the best room in the house!
