Chat GPT channel in Pakistan?
HEC in Pakistan has not taken any decision on this issue at present, however, in a special conversation with Urdu News, HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed has indicated that a policy will be made soon in this regard.
HEC experts have previously been using 'turn it in' software for anti-plagiarism and copyright protection, but the new chatbot has a crack at the old software as it can send replies to I can't catch stolen content.
According to Ayesha Razzaq, a Pakistani educationist and former adviser on education to the federal government, this is a very powerful bot. In a recent article written for an English newspaper, he said that ChatGPT is more convenient for students as a personal tutor than a regular search engine.
He said that people will use it for entertainment as well as for education. These include creating poetry and song lyrics through it, writing fictional stories and creating dialogue and 'fake' quotes for characters in books, films and TV shows.
However, he warned that many people can use it to create fake news and social media posts.
According to Ayesha Razak, serious people can use it to develop business plans for specific projects and regions of the world, create research summaries, and understand code.
However, according to him, ChatGPT is still not killing Google and Bing etc. It also has some flaws and lacks some functionality. OpenAI also had to stop public access to ChatGPT as expected, as demand is high but the true cost of generating responses through it is quite high, and by one estimate only in terms of energy costs. The expenses are from 15 lakh to 18 lakh dollars.
Talking to Urdu News, education expert Ayesha Razzak further said that Chatbot is both an opportunity and a challenge for educational institutions. Most top private schools and universities require teachers to adopt instruction and assessment.
Some practices have to be changed and taken into account in teacher professional training programs. The bot's impact on most public schools will be limited because their homework doesn't require much open-ended writing.
