Herbs are delicious and easy to grow. When harvested they make even a simple meal look like fun. By using herbs in your cooking you can easily change the taste of your recipes in many different ways, depending on which herbs you add. Fresh herbs are good for bread, stew, soup or vegetables. Every time you add different vegetables you have completely changed the taste.
If you are a beginner, start small, add a little more as you adjust as you go along until you have mastered it. You will see in many cases that each vegetable is associated with a particular diet. Basil is mixed with tomatoes, Oregano and sauces, Rosemary and lamb and Chives with butter or cream cheese. Of course, none of them are limited to these items, but you will find them often paired with certain foods. Use your imagination and temptation, temptation, temptation!
You can make vegetable vinegars for salad dressings, marinades, or soups. Vegetable oils are very useful for cooking whenever the recipe requires that.
Fresh herbs like garnishes adorn any meal make it look really amazing. Place sprigs of rosemary on top of the dried lambs. Chop the fresh parsley and sprinkle it over your potato salad. The combinations are endless and the result is fantastic.
The fresh herbs will be stored in the refrigerator for a few days but should be frozen. They can be refrigerated by wrapping them in paper towels and putting them in a plastic bag. Once frozen use them only in cooking and not as garnishes. My friend washes them, puts a tray of ice cube, covers it with water and freezes it. If they need soup, stew or sauces, just put the cube in the middle.
My favorite herbs I will grow are basil, oregano, lemon balm, parsley and mint. Mint is good but be careful, mint can run your garden. The tip here would be to bury a can of empty coffee and plant mint in it. The can prevents mint from "crying" throughout your garden.
I like making herb butters. Take half a cup of softened butter and add 4 tablespoons of fresh herbs. Put a piece of saran to wrap, put butter in the middle of the saran roll to make a "log" in butter. Refrigerate and whenever you need a pat of butter just cut the “log”. (Tips for “log” butter: potatoes, bread, beef, noodles and any type of sauce).
A fresh remedy in any dressing salad makes it shiny. You can use any vegetable or combination, create.
I learned the trick a long time ago using basil, lemon and avocado to create a quick natural face mask. Put a handful of basil in a blender and run high. Once the basil is ground, add a portion of avocado and a teaspoon of lemon juice, stirring until smooth. Wash your face, dry and apply the avocado mixture gently. Leave it open for as long as you like, then use warm water to wash it off.
These are just a few of the ways in which you can use new herbs in your garden. I'm sure he'll come up with more. Fun cooking
