It's really great to come to Georgetown and be with you all.
Before I start my speech,
I want to take a moment to admit one thing,
Today we lost a true icon, Eliza Cummings.
His voice was strong,
For social progress and bringing people together.
When I was in college,
Our country had just gone to war in Iraq.
The condition of our campus was so bad that we couldn't believe we were in the campus.
Many of us had the same situation.
They went into battle without hearing many important points of view.
Soldiers and their families sang through many hardships.
How serious was our mentality towards nationality.
Most of us felt that we were powerless
I want to have a relationship.
I felt then that if people have opinions, that is
Where to share, then there is no other way to go.
A belief was born in my mind that year
Giving people a chance to share their opinions
Empowering the powerless is the same thing.
Over time society moves towards betterment.
I was doing the initial version then
For my facebook users.
Then I got a chance to see
A small scale game of values and beliefs.
When the students were able to reveal who they were?
And what is important to them,
They started forming more student groups.
And organizes more business.
And they even take some challenges
So that there is something to do around the campus.
It taught me that the world is many times
Focuses on large events and institutions.
Big stories, the most progressive in our lives
Actually this story comes from people who have multiple opinions.
So since then,
I focused on my service package which does two things.
Give people feedback and bring people together.
These two simple concepts,
Voice and inclusion go hand in hand.
As we have seen throughout history,
Now it doesn't always seem to work that way.
Give them a chance because more people are able to share their experiences
Perspective is always necessary
To build a better society.
And it is our promise to each other that we hold each other's right to express ourselves.
Our own opinion will always be heard
In every debate we find new ways.
This is how we move forward together.
But this view is increasingly being challenged.
Yet some people believe that giving more people opinions divides people instead of uniting them.
More people around the world
Believes and achieves political results
Because they think that matter is more important than every person
Have an opinion and it's not being heard.
I think that is dangerous.
So today, I want to talk about why and how important it is for sure.
Free expression means I think we're moving forward.
Throughout history,
How we can use your feedback,
These two are how people are able to give their opinion
Helps people unite.
We're turning it around in the civil rights movement.
Frederick Douglass once called
Freedom of speech is the great moral reformer of our society.
He said, slavery cannot tolerate freedom of speech.
Civil rights leaders have argued repeatedly
that their protest was a protected form of expression.
And a note that in almost all cases
Involved in the civil rights movement
The decision was based on the First Amendment.
We have also seen it globally,
Where the power to speak freely is concentrated
In the global struggle for democracy.
A most oppressive society
I have always limited my speech.
And when people are finally able to speak,
They often use their opinions to call for change.
This year, people gave their opinion and they used it
In the North, it managed to end a long-standing dictatorship
Africa. We're already starting to hear
Most of those whose opinions were excluded were women because they believe in democracy.
Our freedom of expression has expanded greatly over the last hundred years.
Many Americans know about the enlightened history of how we employed the First Amendment
In our Constitution, however, no less dramatic exercises have taken place
Our cultural norms and legal protections have expanded,
