How to Change Voice from active to Passive ?
Voice has two kinds. (1) Active and other is (2) Passive. When any subject of the Sentence works directly then we call it Active. Suppose -- I eat rice. But if any work happens indirectly then we call it Passive. Supose --- Rice is eaten by me.
Here are some rules for changing any active sentence to passive. Before learning this we have to know some subjects and their objects.
Subject Object
I ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- me
We ------------------------------------------------------------------------- us
You -------------------------------------------------------------------------- you
He ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- him
She ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- her
They -------------------------------------------------------------------------- them
Now we shall learn how to change .
Active : I eat rice
Passive : Rice is eaten by me.
1 2 3 4 5
Rule : Position 1 . In passive sentence we have to write the object of the active sentence as the subject of passive.
Position 2. In 2nd position we have write auxiliary verbs according to tense and subject . In which tense we have to put which auxiliary verbs I will explain it in the following.
Position 3 : We have to put the past participle form of the main verbs in this position.
Position 4 : We have to write " by " in this position.
Position 5 : We have to write the objective form of the subject of the active sentence.
Interesting thing is that in every tense all the positions of above are equal except position 2 ( where we put auxiliary verbs) . So now we will learn in which tense we have to put which auxiliary verbs. We never change voice from active to passive of Perfect continuous Tenses . So we have to learn only 9 tenses.
1. Present Indefinite Tense : am/ is / are.
2. Present continuous Tense : am being / is being / are being .
3. Present Perfect Tense : have been / has been .
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Past Indefinite Tense : was / were
5. Past Continuous Tense : was being / were being.
6. Past perfect Tense : had been .
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. Future Indefinite Tense : shall be/ will be.
8. Future continuous Tense : shall be being / will be being.
9. Future perfect Tense : shall have been / will have been .
Now we will see some example :
1. Active : He is reading a book.
Pas : A book is being read by him.
2. Ac : They have played football.
pas : Football has been palyed by them.
3. Ac : He called me.
Pas : I was called by him.
