How To Build Backlink - A Simple Guide
Backlink building guide
Links from external sites (backlinks) are still one of the biggest factors influencing search engine rankings. However, the links must be of high quality. Purchased links and adding a site to link lists rarely affect search engine visibility.
An external link can be said to be like voting for your site. The sound of a high-quality link can be hundreds of times louder than that of a poor-quality link.
What is a quality link?
The quality of a link is affected by many factors.
-
The linker is a trusted site. The linking site must be trustworthy in the eyes of search engines. A site that appears at the top of search results in your industry can be listed as trustworthy. The reliability of sites can also be assessed with PA and DA figures. The link is popular. Other sites link to the same link.
-
The link is from a source that deals with the same things as your site. The link should preferably come from a site that writes about the same topic as your site. For example, a restaurant should have links to pages about restaurant reviews, for example.
-
The link is in text format. The highest-quality link is always a normal text link and not an image, for example.
-
The anchor text contains the desired keyword. The word you want to appear in search results appears in the link's anchor text. Here is an example of a “Plumbing in Tampere” anchor fork. <a href=ksetwww.putkipate.fi/putkityot-tampere punktu> Pipework Tampere </a>
-
The link is in the content of the article or page. The quality of a link is affected when it is placed in the content of the page and not in a header or footer, for example.
-
The linking site does not have thousands of other links. The effect of link lists on search engine visibility is almost non-existent.
-
( The link generates visitors. Many claims that the link should bring visitors to your site. However, the effect of this has not been verified by Google)
Rel = No follow
If the previous list didn’t make it hard enough to fetch quality links, then at least it does. The webmaster can add a rel = No follow snippet of code to the search engines for reading. The code asks the search engine not to track (i.e. crawl) this link. These links are unlikely to affect your site's search engine visibility.
Rel = Nofollow is often used on sites where users are able to generate content for the site themselves. The code often prevents links from being spammed. Below is a list of links that use the rel = No follow tag in all of their links.
-
Paid Ads. Google, Facebook, and other paid ads.
-
Popular discussion forums. Most discussion forums use rel = No follow code, but not all. Below is a list of forums that do not contain the rel = Nofollow tag.
-
Comments. It would be great to get links by commenting on articles in Helsingin Sanomat or Iltasanomat, but unfortunately, these links are also worthless.
-
Social media. Almost all Social Media links contain rel = No follow code. Still, do not stop using some! The visibility of social media still affects your search engine visibility.
-
You can test whether the site links have a rel = No follow tag, for example with the Moz Bar plugin (green = not included, red = contains).
Should an external link lead to the homepage of my site?
There is no completely, 100% accurate information about the effects of the links. The general idea about links is that the link should lead to the page whose search engine visibility you want to improve. It is therefore recommended that each important page on your site has its own external links.
Linking to the home page also affects other pages on the site. According to the Domain Authority (DA) developed by MOZ, the link also has little effect on the overall visibility of the site in search engines.
A simple link building strategy
-
Create quality content and make your pages easy to share. The easier links in the world are the ones that show up on their own. Make content that others share on the Internet for you.
-
Ask your partners to link to your site. One easy way to get quality links is to ask for them from familiar people.
-
Do you own multiple websites? Link them together. However, make sure the pages cover the same topic area.
-
Enter a customer reference. Are you sure you ever subscribe to the service? Give this business a customer referral to which you request to link your page. That is a Win-Win situation.
-
Make guest posts to blogs and websites. Ask permission to write a guest post or quote on a blog related to your field. Join discussions. In the previous (rel = No follow) section, I explained how some discussion forums and comments contain code that prevents the link from working.
Find out what links your competitors have, and could you get those links yourself? There are many tools for this, but one of the easier ones is perhaps MOZ's Open Site Explorer
