We all know how difficult it can be to get a confirmed ticket on the Indian Railways, especially for last-minute trips or emergencies. "Tatkal" tickets come in handy in this situation. A tatkal ticket, as its name suggests, allows you to reserve a seat on the train you want just one day prior to the travel date.
The process of purchasing a tatkal railway ticket begins just one day before the trip, at 10 a.m. for tickets in third AC (3AC) and higher, and at 11 a.m. for sleeper class tickets. However, there are only a few seats reserved in AC and Non-AC compartments on trains with a tatkal quota. Additionally, the window for these tickets is only open for one hour and can only accommodate four PNRs. It is important to keep in mind that tatkal tickets can be canceled without receiving a refund. The following are some of the online booking options for tatkal tickets:
The IRCTC website is, without a doubt, the most convenient place to purchase a tatkal ticket. Make sure to sign up for the service from the IRCTC home page if you don't already have one.
1. After that, go to the "Plan My Journey" page and select "From Station" and "To Station" from the drop-down menus.
2. Now select "Journey Date" and "E-ticket" for the ticket. You will be presented with a list of trains that depart from your location and arrive at your destination once you click the "Submit" button.
3. The option titled "Select Quota" will appear at the top of the train list. Select "Tatkal" from this menu, and the website will display trains with a tatkal quota.
4. You can see how many seats are available for the train you want to take. Click the "Book Now" button if a tatkal ticket is available.
5. You will now be prompted to enter the passenger's name, age, preferred berth, and other information in a new window. After the train chart has been prepared, you can also select "Consider for Auto Upgradation" to upgrade your class on autopilot.
6. Enter the case-sensitive captcha and the mobile phone number you want to receive train information after entering all required information.
7. You can proceed now by making payments using the payment methods of your choice.
How to buy a tatkal ticket on MakeMyTrip One of the few third-party services that has teamed up with the IRCTC and lets users buy tatkal tickets is MakeMyTrip. To book your ticket, you will still need an IRCTC account; therefore, ensure that you have registered on the website and that you remember your account name and password. You must log in to your IRCTC account from the MakeMyTrip railways page in order to book a tatkal ticket through MakeMyTrip.
1. Select the date of the journey and the source and destination stations after logging in with IRCTC credentials.
2. Select tatkal from the Quota tab now, and then look for trains. Click on the "Book Now" button when you locate the train you want to board.
3. You will be asked to enter passenger information like name, age, gender, and more on the following page. After that, select the method of payment you prefer, pay for the ticket, and you're ready to go.
On other third-party websites like Goibibo, Ixigo, PayTM, and others, the procedure is roughly comparable.
