A healthy diet and exercise are the cornerstones of maintaining your body shape over time, but how do you choose the right exercises to maximize results? Here are three simple exercises that you can add to your daily routine to help you maintain your body shape.

1) Cardio

No matter what your fitness level, cardiovascular exercise will help you lose weight. Cardio is any form of exercise that elevates your heart rate for a sustained period of time. Examples include: jogging, swimming, cycling and aerobics. If you’re just starting out on a health journey or simply looking to drop a few pounds, cardio should be at least part of your routine. Cardio is important because it allows our bodies to burn more calories and reap more benefits from strength training. In addition, people who exercise have been shown to have better brain health and lower rates of depression than those who don’t.

2) Arms

While arms are often one of our biggest areas of concern, it’s not difficult to keep them toned and fit. Try a set of bicep curls three times a week, flexing at your torso and not just your wrist. These exercises should be done slowly and with control, focusing on flexing until you feel your muscles tightening. The same goes for triceps push-ups—go slow to make sure you hit all areas of your triceps! If you have access to weights, try starting out with five pounds in each hand. If not, there are still plenty of exercises that don’t require equipment—try doing crunches or squats while holding onto something sturdy (like a chair). This will help build muscle in your core as well as in your arms.

3) Stomach

If you can’t see your toes, it means your stomach is getting in the way, says De Vries. Lie flat on your back with both feet up against a wall, knees bent 90 degrees. Place a book or other flat surface underneath your lower back so that you don’t arch; hold for one minute and relax. Repeat three times per day to strengthen stomach muscles and improve posture. You can also do side bends while standing by bending to one side at a time until you feel tension in your obliques (the muscle along your sides). Hold for five seconds and repeat 10 times per side. This will help tighten your core as well as flatten your abs. Another option: Sit on an exercise ball and slowly roll back and forth, holding onto something sturdy for balance if necessary. Do it once every hour or two throughout the day to keep things tight—and tone up!
