Most working mothers at home start a home based business because they want to stay home with their young children. And I'm no different: I quit a great corporate job to be with my two kids.
But again, you're done a lot of work in your business 'and' it works! Yes, you are getting orders 'and' you are making some money, but the downside is that you do not have much time for your little ones. Then, how do you balance your time? Do you still put your children first? Or you can say "One Minute Honey!" Line and hope they can not tell the time?
It happened to me: One day, during my first Christmas season in business, I was busy ordering 150 gift baskets. It was a very difficult task, and the tension was high. The deadline is approaching, and I don’t even have time to fix the room.
Boxes with products everywhere, empty boxes and delicious food are everywhere: a real disaster zone! And then, my 4-year-old daughter (now 11 years old) came up to me with her big brown eyes in tears: "Mom, I'm bored 'and' I'm alone ...Can we play a little? "" What should I do?
So, I was quickly on my feet wondering how I could play with him and work with him at the same time. And I came up with the idea of building an office next to his office with used / damaged boxes. She is excited! And he did it all! I told him where to go and bring the boxes and made room for him at my desk. He built a desk, restored a chair and even had items to sell in his shop.
With it, I was able to continue my work without interruption most of the time. She loves to look at me and copy: When I picked up the phone to talk to the client, she picked up her imaginary phone. When I had to make a basket, he made his own basket. When I calculated the price of my baskets, he took a pencil and calculated his prices.
Over time, her office developed: old, damaged boxes were replaced with real wooden drawers. The inventory I could not sell became his store inventory. He also invented a binding machine and a sofa. Now, her office is her favorite place to play. And it's not just the office anymore: it's a whole building with various stores. It has a restaurant, bath and body store, bookstore and toy store.
The store helped her in many ways:
- He learned how to manage and order inventory
- He learned about phone etiquette
- He learned to add and subtract
- He learned company skills
- She has learned to be creative (small pieces and ribbon pieces, irregular baskets, empty containers have become huge assets for her business)
