Google, as the undisputed leader in search engines from that time to the present, places great emphasis on the quality and relevance of its search engines. Especially now that the company is publicly owned. In order to satisfy the shareholders and users of its engines, the quality of the returned results is of utmost importance.
By the same token, doing wrong things in Adsense and other forms of advertising, whether intentionally or unintentionally, will result in severe punishment, you may be banned, and your account may even be terminated. Nothing like good measures taken to prevent offenders from doing the same things again.
So for those considering a career in Adsense, don't just think about the strategies you will use to generate higher earnings. Consider some things first before you actually get down to it.
Hidden texts. Filling your ad page with text small enough to read, the same color as the background and using css only to load them with keyword rich content and copy will earn you the penalty given to those who hide links.
Page masking. Common practice is to use browser or bot sniffers to serve bots on a page other than the one your visitors will see. Loading a page with a bot that a human user will never see is a definite no-no. This tricks them into clicking on something you want, but they may not want to go.
More posts. Submitting multiple copies of your domain and pages is another thing to avoid. For example, trying to submit an AdSense URL as two separate URLs is the same as causing problems and even termination. Likewise, it's a reason to avoid auto-submitters for those who accept submissions. Before trying again, check if your domain is already submitted to a certain search engine. If you see it there, go ahead. No point in thinking about trying and sending it there again.
Connect the farms. Be careful who and what you link your Adsense to. Search engines know you can't control your links. But you can certainly control what you link to. Link farming has always been a bad apple in the eyes of search engines, especially Google. That's reason enough to try to avoid them. Having a link higher than 100 on one page classifies you as a link farm, so try to get them higher than that.
Site evaluation for sale. If you've been online for a while, you'll notice that some sites sell their PR links or trade them with other sites. If you do, expect to be banned anytime in the future. It's okay to sell ads or get a link. But doing it to directly advertise your page rank is a way to get on the wrong page of the search engines.
Door. It's similar to page masking. The common practice of an ad-laden page with selected keywords aimed at redirecting visitors to another "user-friendly" page is a big deal among search engines. There are many SEO firms that offer this kind of service. Now that you know what they actually are, try to avoid them at all costs.
Multiple domains with the same content. If you're not aware, search engines look at IP domains, registry data, and much more. Having multiple domains with the same exact content is not something you can hide from them. The same applies to content multiplied many times over on separate pages, subdomains, and redirecting multiple domains to the same content.
Many of the above techniques apply to most search engines and are not just for Google. By having the mindset that you are creating your Adsense along with your pages for human users and not bots, you can be sure of great things for your ads and websites.
Not to mention avoiding the wrath of the search engines and the complete termination of your AdSense account and website.
