Since the outset of life on the planet earth, there has been constant struggle between forces of good and evil to prove their might. Humans inhibiting this planet has been subjected to destruction multiple times owing mainly to their own subversive acts. Retrospection unveils that insatiable desire for power served as a major cause of conflict between the rival human groups. They not only caused damage to their own race but also altered the natural phenomena to the larger extent.
Power lust led to 02 world wars in 20th century in which millions of people became victims with Japan which, had to face massive loses due to nuclear attack by the United States of America. These sorry episodes paved the way for creation of the world body: United Nations Organization. With the creation of UNO, there was hope that now no more lethal conflicts will emerge again, but all the efforts undertaken by UNO went down the drain when the US invaded Iraq in 1992 and 2003 respectively in a plea to cleanse Iraq of weapons of mass destruction and overthrow the brutal regime of Saddam Hussain. In the same vain, Afghanistan met the sorry fate and had to bear the brunt of America's vested interests. Given the fact that the UNO has adopted a number of resolutions on Palestine and Kashmir issues, they are still bleeding due to hegemonic attitude of Israel and India respectively.
The aforementioned instances are enough to guess the futility of the UNO, as it failed thoroughly to protect humanity from the scourge of war. It also reflects that the quotation "might is right" still prevails in this technology driven world. Taking the example Of the US, Russia also unleashed a reign of terror and devastation in the neighboring Ukraine. The alibi put forward by Russia for this attack is to contain NATO Expansion in Eastern Europe.
Whatever are the reasons for this brutality, humanity appears to be at stake as the United States and its allies are reluctant to take pragmatic steps to put an end to this Russian aggression. Before this invasion, there were apprehensions that NATO will deploy its resources in Ukraine in case of Russia crosses the International border, but all this turned to be a dream and only Ukrainian people had to face the atrocities being committed by Putin and his ruthless forces.
Now, it is a million-dollar question that what role the US and NATO have to play in the prevailing circumstances. It seems that there exist two options for them. One is that they may take up the issue at all world forums and gather support in the form of economic sanctions. The other one, being the direct involvement in the conflict, may have severe implications for the whole world. If the second one is opted, the flames of war are likely to engulf the entire world, as most of the nations having affiliation with both the conflicting parties will be compelled to join the war. If it happens, the ravages of war will be limitless and the plight of people will be inconceivable.
Without mooting further, it may be explicitly derived that the world is on the verge of war if Russian advancement is not halted at the earliest. The world community shall perk up efforts to douse the flames of war, keeping in mind that humanity must prevail, whether it is an offset victory.
