We all know that Acupressure is about 5,000 years old now and those of us involved in Holistic and Wellness are still convinced that the procedures incorporated in this field work much better than physical therapy. Every living thing has the life force, or energy called qi or chi (pronounced "chee"). When this energy, flowing through the meridians, balances and flows freely, the body is in good health. Acupoints enter the major energy pathways of the body When this power is blocked or lacking, it can cause illness. This energy disorder is usually the result of stress or injury. Acupressure is believed to cause the brain to release endorphins. Endorphins play a key role in the immune system, in reducing pain, reducing stress, and slowing down the aging process. Low back pain has long been a part of today's world not only in the hours of a lost person but also because of the many side effects, problems, and nuances of low back pain complaints. Further research now confirms the benefits of acupressure over physical therapy. Although studies have failed to consider functional status and disability as recommended by many researchers for low back pain findings are still very useful and important. In February 2006 a randomized controlled trial took place at the National Taiwan University in Taipei. 129 patients with chronic low back pain received acupressure or physical therapy for 1 month. The main conclusions were Chinese self-regulatory versions of standard measures for the effect of low back pain (Roland and Morris' disability questionnaire) at baseline, after treatment, and at 6 months follow-up. After treatment, the total number of Roland and Morris disability questions was significantly lower in the acupressure group than in the physical therapy group regardless of the difference in total scores or mean change from baseline. Compared with physical therapy, acupressure was associated with an 89% reduction in significant disability, and that improvement was maintained at 6 months follow-up. Learning limitations include the confusing psychological effect of treatment; a loss of 15.5% of patients to be monitored within 6 months and the success of any fraudulent treatment depends on the therapist's expertise and knowledge. Participants were 18 to 81 years old. Terms of discharge were pregnancy and contraindication to acupressure. 64 patients were randomly assigned to acupressure and 65 to physical therapy. Complete or incomplete results still point to the undeniable and positive aspects of acupressure as well as complete treatment. On the other hand, Acupressure has also been identified as a new aid for drowsy students. The 39 volunteer students found that those who were taught to exercise acupressure to gain mobility points in the legs, feet, hands, and head were less likely to fall asleep during class. Acupressure involved gently tapping the fingers or using the thumbs or forefinger to easily rub the affected areas. It was agreed that further research is needed regarding acupressure and its impact on human alertness. If you look at the other good things this self-regulating acupressure may also be a consideration for children with ADHD contra Ritalin! We all know Acupressure has been around for some 5,000 years now and those of us involved in Holistic and wellness remain convinced that the procedures encompassed within this sphere are more efficacious than physical therapy.
