How to achieve peace?

Peace. A five-letter word that looks too usual but is very elusive. It is a calming and soothing state of mind which is aspired by many but attained by few. Reason? Most of us attach our energies to things of material relevance, which in fact, have no consequence in the long run. On the contrary, what we should be striving for, is to be one with Nature.

Nature never issues our energies; if we put in our efforts positively and be aware of the wonders that it has to offer, we can achieve the golden state that peace is. Do the trees ever look agitated, or do the flowers ever seem annoyed? No, right? Because they have accepted the way, they are and welcome the roles they have been assigned to play with open arms. They never crib about what they could have done or what could have become of them had their feet to run or wings to fly. Rather, they accept the power that is in firmness. They never compare. And nor should we. In comparison, we lose the ability to be grateful for the gifts we have been endowed with.

Stay in the present. Even if you feel that what you are doing is of no worthy contribution to the world, do it otherwise. A caterpillar may seem insignificant, but the butterfly is here to capture the intrigues of many a man.

Appreciate yourself. Pat your back for the little deeds that made you feel motivated and responsible. Even if it is feeding your pets right, being able to help someone in need in a however small way you can, watering the plants on time despite your busy schedule, in short, anything and everything that helps create a better day for a fellow living being, and that includes you too! Remember, a better day makes a better week, month, year; all in all, a better life.

Listen to what others have to say. And going a step ahead, understand. It may not make sense to you, but it does to the person expressing it.

Be grateful for waking up in the morning, having food to eat, water to drink, for that one person who is so dear to you, for having so much more than most other people. But, never demean the less fortunate.

Act as a role model. Trust me; when we think that someone's noticing and learning from us, we tend to act with more care and responsibility.

And lastly, have faith. Have faith in all the good things coming your way and in your entire existence. Remind yourself that you deserve to be here and fulfill the purpose that has been assigned to you, however unclear that may appear currently. Maxx Ehrmann has penned this beautifully in his famous poem, Desiderata. Give it a read here:

Desiderata by Maxx Ehrmann

Do not run after peace, be at peace. If you stay where you are and continue to do what you were doing, but all this with joyful energy and good intentions, peace will come to you.
