What is the value of professional advice? I have found from experience that it is difficult to put a value on advice from a professional. In fact it is very important when you consider the cost not only financially, but also how much of your personal time and your level of stress and lack of distractions in your daily activities are important.
Informative informed decisions often provided free of charge can save you time, stress and great difficulty. Example: Hiring a carpenter if you do not know how to install it. I tried to make my own pipes once.
I quickly discovered, that I was not a plumber. Not only did I damage the tap components I was trying to repair, but I also caused water damage in my living space. When I finally got a plumbing technician to do the work, and to repair the damage I had done, it cost me more than it would have been if I had hired him in the first place.
Another example is applying the advice of a lawyer to avoid legal disputes. When I ended my marriage 12 years ago, I made the mistake of thinking that I could get a divorce by using the "divorce kit". This tactic may have worked for some, but in my case it did not work very well.
Although I did a lot of research, I followed a strict timeline and carefully dotted every “I” and skipped every “T” of the application, paying the price for not seeking expert advice. Although I felt confident in the day of the trial, I found myself involved in a verbal war that benefited me.
As a result, I was ordered to pay a substantial amount of support. Years later, when my children reached the age of puberty, and my ex-wife remarried; until it was time for him to get help. This time I hired a lawyer.
The advice of my experts was not just to get rid of the excess support that was coming out, but in all fairness, to repay some of what I was strongly equipped to pay under pressure. The court ruled in my favor, and I found out that for years I had not been financially secure.
Lastly, a good example is to find insurance professionals to avoid insufficient payments or major inconveniences when it comes to earning money through the policy. Years ago, I decided to buy my employer's insurance to protect the contents of my home. In an effort to save money, I browse the web to find the best deals.
I found a website that offers insurance at a “reduced price”, so I submitted my personal information and received an “automatic rate”. It appeared on the screen immediately and looked normal, so I called the toll-free number provided. I wanted to find out if I should add serials, or mark my items in any way so they could be identified later, and find out if I should post a list of my personal items and the amount I would put in it.
The “automatic insurance agent” on the other side of the line was not very helpful, and I ended up frustrated trying to find the right person to talk to. Stupidly, I applied for insurance and started paying premiums, I was automatically deducted from my checking account, of course. I have never spoken to an insurance agent, although I have tried several times to do so.
When my home was looted and I applied for compensation, I realized that I would be paid only a few dollars and that my future payments would be extremely expensive. Also, not wanting professional advice seemed expensive. Insurance, whether it is life, health, home or your car, is considered a scary topic for many.
Most people avoid it and treat only what they are obliged to have. For example, mortgage insurance because their home is funded and required. The very word "insurance" is popular and includes images of hours of study or sitting at a kitchen table with a frustrated agent to choose from.
I have found that I am very nervous about discussing my death, as well as considering the need for insurance coverage that benefits the people I love when I travel. When I was in my twenties, I laughed when someone talked about life insurance. I saw no need for that, since I had a long way to go before I could think of such things. If I were wise, I would seek professional advice at an early age. I could buy a lifetime policy for a small fee.
