How The Ultimate Facial Sauna

One of the great advantages of saunas and steam baths is the tonic effects on the skin. They leave the skin soft, supple and glowing - in short, beautiful. Regular users of saunas and steam baths have an attractive, healthy glow that adds to their attractiveness.

The reason sauna and steam are so good for the skin is the deep cleansing caused by heavy sweating. The pores open wide and all the accumulated impurities can be easily washed away.

The best skin toning benefits come from full body saunas, but those looking for a quick fix to their skin can get similar results from facial sauna systems. These "mini saunas" are designed to apply steam to the face for the same deep cleansing as a full sauna or steam room.

How they work

The facial sauna has an electric heating element on the underside. It heats the water (which is kept in a small tank) to boiling point, causing steam to rise. The small size of the reservoir ensures fast steam production.

An ergonomically designed mask sits on top of the reservoir to capture and deliver the steam to your face. You can control the amount of steam your face is exposed to by the distance of the mask from your face.

Bringing your face into direct contact with the mask provides maximum deep cleansing, but this position should only be used for a few moments. After about 10 seconds, lift your head to allow the cooler air to mix with the steam. Repeat this cycle as many times as needed.

Facial saunas are not only for deep cleansing of the skin; they are also useful for unblocking sinuses. Anyone with a simple cold or more serious ailments such as bronchitis, sinusitis, asthma and hay fever can use a facial sauna as an inhaler or vaporizer.

Some facial saunas have a separate inhalation attachment. Instead of the inhaler fitting  over the entire face, it fits over the nose and mouth. Simply inhale the vapor to provide almost instant relief from sinus pain.

Operating tips

Most facial saunas have a very small tank so that the water can heat up quickly. The downside is that the water evaporates quickly, so if you want to use the sauna for a long time, you should have a tall glass of water with you. This way you can quickly refill the reservoir when it runs dry.

Unfortunately, the small tank also means that the facial sauna cannot be used as a night vaporizer. If your sinuses keep you up at night, you might be better off with a traditional vaporizer that provides steam for several hours.

Steam is great for deep cleansing your skin, but you can add special cleansers like tea tree oil to the water for an additional beauty treatment. Just a few drops of this oil will give your skin an even brighter glow and leave it fresh and supple.

Facial saunas are relatively inexpensive – usually less than $60. At this price, almost everyone can enjoy deep cleansing and special "radiant" skin that sets the average sauna user apart from the crowd.
