How the photography was developed

Most of the time, a lens is used during a timed exposure to focus light that is transmitted or reflected from objects into a precise image on a camera's light-sensitive surface. An electrical charge is produced at each pixel of an electronic picture sensor. As order to show or process this electrical charge further, it is electronically processed and recorded as a digital picture file. With photographic emulsion, a latent image that cannot be seen is created. This intangible latent picture is eventually chemically "developed" into a visible image, either negative or positive, depending on the usage of the photographic substance and the processing method.

 By utilizing contact printing or an enlarger to create a positive image on a foundation of paper, a print is traditionally created from a negative picture on film.

BLACK AND WHITE

In the beginning, monochromatic or black-and-white photography was the norm. Due to its lower price, chemical stability, and "classic" photographic appearance, black-and-white photography remained in vogue for decades after color film became commercially available. Black-and-white images stand out due to their tones and the contrast between their light and dark areas. Monochromatic photographs can contain tones of a single color rather than only being composed of pure blacks, whites, and varying levels of gray, depending on the technique. For instance, the cyan type technique yields blue-toning in the picture. The albumen print process, which was made known in 1847, creates brownish tones.

Many photographers continue to take some monochromatic pictures, since properly prepared silver-halide-based materials have long been recognized to have established archival stability. While some manufacturers of digital cameras have versions that can only record monochrome photos, certain full-color digital shots are sometimes transformed to black and white using a variety of processing techniques. Monochrome printing and electronic display can preserve certain unattractive color photos; on occasion, it is discovered that black-and-white or single-color-toned versions of these photographs work better. Despite color photography's long-standing dominance, monochrome images are still produced, mainly for aesthetic reasons.

A monochrome setting is available on virtually all digital cameras, and almost all image editing software lets you combine or remove particular RGB color channels to make a monochrome image.

COLOR

The study of color photography began in the 1840s. There was no means to "fix" the photo to prevent the color from fading away rapidly when exposed to white light, therefore the color in early color studies had to be exposed for very long durations (hours or days for camera images).

The first lasting color photograph was made in 1861 using the three-color-separation hypothesis, which Scottish scientist James Clerk Maxwell first proposed in 1855. Nearly all practical color processes are based on Maxwell's idea of obtaining three different black-and-white photographs via red, green, and blue filters. Thus, the photographer has access to the three basic channels required to create a color image. Transparent prints of the pictures might be projected via comparable color filters and overlaid on the projection screen to replicate colors additively. A color print on paper may be manufactured using a subtractive method for color reproduction pioneered by 'Louis Du cos Du Huron' in the late 1860s by superimposing carbon copies of the three pictures made in their complementary colors.

Slide projectors can employ color photography's positive transparencies, or color negatives can be used to create positive color enlargements on specially coated paper from color negatives. This later sort of film (non-digital) color photography has become the most common due to the advancement of automated image printing technologies. After a transitional phase from 1995 to 2005, low-cost multi-megapixel digital cameras relegated color film to a niche industry. Film continues to be preferred by certain photographers owing to its distinct "look".

DIGITAL                                                          The first digital camera to both capture and preserve photos in a digital format was the 'Fuji x' DS-1P, created by Fuji film in 1988.

Kodak introduced the DCS 100, the first commercially available digital single-lens reflex camera, in 1991. Despite the fact that commercial digital photography could only be used for reportage and professional photography due to its expensive cost, it was nonetheless developed.

Digital imaging employs an electronic image sensor to record an image as a collection of electronic data, rather than taking a picture as a series of chemical reactions on film. Due to the use of film and photographic paper in chemical photography, it resists photo manipulation, whereas digital imaging is a highly manipulating medium. This distinguishes chemical photography from digital photography. This differential opens up new opportunities for communication and applications, as well as a level of post-processing for images that is fairly difficult with film-based photography.

Digital photography has dominated the 21st century. More than 99% of all photographs are captured by digital cameras globally, with cellphones playing an increasingly significant role.
